Danville police responded to an early morning crash on Ky. 33 after a car toppled a billboard and landed on top of a stone fence. Cecilia Muhammad, 57, of Harrodsburg was driving toward town and lost control of her Lincoln Town Car as she entered the curve just before Candlewood subdivision. Police received the call about 6:30 a.m. Muhammad was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle before it hit the stone fence, according to Assistant Chief Tony Gray. Officer Chris Stratton reported a witness thought the vehicle appeared to have been speeding and that it "drifted off the roadway.

A burglary in progress was interrupted by neighbors early this morning in Candlewood subdivision. Danville police Detective Kevin Peel said neighbors witnessed intruders leaving a residence at 100 Winning Colors with stolen property in hand about 5 a.m. Neighbors simultaneously called out to the burglars and called police. Officers arrived within a minute of receiving the call, Peel said, but the burglars got away. It is unknown how long the intruders were inside the house before being noticed.

Several residents on Boone Trail have reported that their vehicles have been ransacked, police said. Interim Police Chief Tony Gray said a woman actually saw a man near her car about 3 a.m. Thursday and yelled at him to go away. Instead, he walked toward the door of her house. She slammed the door and called police. "Call police before you do anything," said Gray. "Don't try to do anything yourself. " He urges motorists to lock their vehicles and call police if they see anyone and anything unusual in the neighborhood.

A Danville man was arrested Thursday night in connection with a recent Third Street burglary. Jeffrey Pemberton, 32, of 609 N. Third St., Apt. 1, was taken into custody after city police linked him to the burglary at 626 N. Third St. Pemberton is charged with second-degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking less than $300. The burglary is one of several reported in the past few weeks. Interim Police Chief Tony Gray said two burglaries and two thefts recently occurred on North Third Street between Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation and Candlewood subdivision.

Danville police continued to find unoccupied homes burglarized with copper missing Tuesday. After discovering evidence of a burglary and copper theft at 1000 Nokomis St. early Tuesday, police were alerted to similar scene at 209 Candlewood Drive. Assistant Chief Tony Gray said copper was taken from the house in the same manner as previous incidents. That makes six burglaries since Friday where the motive and method of the thieves appear to be the same. They are targeting houses that are for sale and taking copper from underneath the structures and from air-conditioning units.
