To the editor: How do you justify if a court system is being fair or not on divorce cases? My opinion is that you should compare similar cases and their outcomes. I have facts on three cases that have gone through the Lincoln County family court system, and how differently the outcomes have been. Case one: The husband worked and the wife worked part-time, the wife was told to quit working and she could get more money from the husband. The couple has two children, a two-year old and a three-year old. The husband was ordered to pay the house payment, car payment, all the utilities, car insurance, and child support.

MAKE A WISH GIRL NEEDS SUPPORT Dear Winchester Sun: I would like to ask the Winchester Community to participate in a fundraising event for the Make a Wish Foundation for Rebecca Perritt before the end of the school year. This will help my daughter, Rebecca, and other children with life-threatening disabilities have a dream trip. Rebecca is a seventh-grade student at Clark Middle School (she's the one in the red wheelchair) who has a brittle bone disorder called osteogenesis imperfect.

A written spending plan is the road map that guides us with our money management. People who have written spending plans are more successful than those who do not write down their spending plans. If you do not have a spending plan, the best way to begin is to keep a diary of your expense for a week or a month. When you look at every expense you had, you will begin to see categories of expenses. Typical categories for a family spending plan include the following: housing (rent or mortgage; utility expenses such as electricity, gas, water, telephone, and cable television)

Dear Editor, Once again, I must refute Carol Bastian’s views; this time on Obamacare. Not everyone pays into Social Security. As a retired teacher from California, I didn’t pay one dime into Social Security. It is not required there. There are 50,000 teachers in California. Bastian states that we all have to buy car insurance. If you don’t own a vehicle, you don’t have to purchase car/vehicle insurance, do you? Probably half the citizens in this country have no idea what Obamacare was all about.

Dear Editor, Why would President Obama let AIG give its executives millions in bonuses using a taxpayer bailout of more than $170 billion dollars. He should have let this company go bankrupt. There would have been some other company to take its place. How could he allow this when the poor working class people are starving, barely making it? The poor people of this country are who should be helped. The company had entered into the bonus agreements in early 2008, before AIG got into severe financial straits, and was forced to obtain a government bailout last fall.

A refresher course for drivers 50 and older is not only beneficial from a safety standpoint, but it also can result in a discount on automobile insurance. An eight-hour course offered by local American Association of Retired People volunteers is a quick and easy way to tune up your driving skills, according to Evelyn Kelsay, a Somerset volunteer. Don't worry, there is no written test or road test at the end, says Kelsay, who has been teaching the class for more than 14 years.

Dear Editor, Even given the hostility of some to any action by Democrats, the reasons for opposition to health care reform are puzzling. The idea that all Americans deserve basic health care has had wide public backing for decades, but the number of uninsured and the costs have risen sharply. The legislation passed is not the best, but it is not radical, based as it is on an extension of private insurance. It provides some immediate relief from fear of catastrophe; it insures millions more; and it pays for itself, even after the Republicans gutted some important cost-cutting measures.

Just as the holiday season wraps up, Kentucky police officers are getting a new list, and they are checking it twice - for the names of those driving without auto insurance. Starting Jan. 1, Kentucky began cracking down on those driving cars, trucks and motorcycles without liability insurance coverage. The new law that requires all insurance companies report to the Department of Vehicle Registration the names of all drivers whose vehicles are insured with their company. A state database will be immediately accessible to all law enforcement officials who can quickly discover who is and who is not insured.

There's a most obnoxious commercial on television these days for a major national auto insurance company. In this commercial, a young lady who appears to be in her early 20s exclaims: "I've had a couple of accidents. OK, a little more than a couple. And a few tickets, too. Most insurance companies just laugh when I call. I NEED my car"! Holy cow! More than two accidents and a "few" tickets, and you're barely out of your teens! The insurance company, which agrees to insure you and your vehicle and to permit you to get back on the road should be banned from the business.
