Four-year-old Cordell Carpenter offered to help his mother, Dona Carpenter of Fitch Avenue, wash her car Thursday afternoon. He made several trips around the car applying soap and water with a rag. Cordell made more soap bubbles by filling the bucket with more water. He was helping wash the car barefoot as temperatures climbed to nearly 90 degrees Thursday. More unseasonably warm temperatures are forecast through the first of next week.

DHS girls soccer holds car wash The Danville High School Lady Ads Soccer Team will have a car wash 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Advance Auto Parts on Hustonville Road. The car wash is free but donations will be accepted. Correction The Brown Endowment, bestowed to Wilderness Trace by the late author Richard Brown, is an unrestricted endowment. It was incorrectly referred to in Wednesday's print edition on A3.

Police Explorers car wash Saturday A car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Winchester Police Department will benefit the Police Department Explorers Post 2255. Volunteers won’t be charging for the car wash, but donations will be accepted to help with the youth group’s competitions and other activities. Recycling meeting Tuesday at GRC Representatives from Winchester Municipal Utilities will meet Tuesday with the public to discuss the implementation of a single-stream curbside recycling program in the Holiday Hills neighborhood.

CRAB ORCHARD - As of 2:50 p.m. Monday, the City of Crab Orchard Waterworks issued a boil water advisory until further notice for the customers beginning at Ky. 150 East out to the end of the line, which includes Main Street (beginning at the car wash traveling east), Burgin, Pine and Meadowlark. Customers of the Crab Orchard water system in this area are asked to boil water before drinking or cooking. This advisory is due to a recent waterline break which has the potential to allow contamination to enter the water system.

West volleyball car wash The West Jessamine High School volleyball team will be having a free car wash Saturday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marathon station next to Bruster's on U.S. 27. Donations for the program's booster club will be accepted. Wilmore summer tennis Wilmore summer tennis will be held from June 5-July 12 at the Asbury University tennis courts. Get instruction on learning the game or improving your existing game and have plenty of opportunity to play matches for ages 8 through adults.

Explorers car wash The Winchester Police Explorers Post 2255 will have a community car wash Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Police Department. There’s no charge, but donations will be accepted. Proceeds will fund the Explorers’ competitions and other activities. Art studio open house set for Sunday afternoon The Studio Downtown – The Fine Arts Connection will have an open house reception celebrating its grand opening, Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m., 21 S. Main St. Visitors will meet instructors of music, art and photography and view custom photography by featured photographer Phil Ling.
