Emma Evelyn Gosser, 74, of Stanford, died Wednesday, April 10, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born Friday, June 3, 1938, in Casey County, Emma was a daughter of the late Josh Leonard Goode and Myrtle Leonard Goode. She worked at Cowden's and on Dickie Cooper's farm for many years and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include sons, Junior, Jackie (Leslie) and Chris (Whitney) Gosser; a daughter, Tonya Wine; a brother, Raymond (Louise) Goode; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Christy Ingram and Kyleigh Murray of Mercer County won a battle Monday between two teams vying for the top girls doubles seed in the upcoming regional tournament, defeating Anna Duncan and Nikol Pluess of Boyle County 6-3, 6-3 as part of Mercer's 8-1 win at Danville. It was the second win this season for Ingram and Murray over the Boyle duo; they won a super tiebreaker to take the first meeting. Erin Pigman of Mercer defeated Boyle's Victoria Horseman 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match.

Glen DeHart, 58, of Hustonville, died Saturday, April 6, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset. Born March 22, 1955, in Casey County, Glen was a son of Clifford (Phyllis) DeHart of Dunnville and the late Nellie Rose Lee DeHart. He worked for Liberty Utilities Department, was a member of Mt. Calvary Community Church and a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Liberty Fire Department and EMS. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Derringer DeHart; daughters, Glenda (Kendall)

The Casey County girls swept Mercer County on Tuesday at Harrodsburg, winning 9-0. Allie Tinsley and Madison Lee won a super tiebreaker to take the No. 1 singles match, and Tylyn Leigh and Haley Owens had 6-2, 6-2 wins in the top two singles matches for Casey. Mercer fell to 3-3. Lester Murl Lawless, 85, of Hustonville, died Saturday, April 6, at his home. Born July 26, 1927, in Casey County, Lester was a son of the late Lemuel Jones and Ollie Cleveland Godbey Lawless. He was an Army veteran and a member and deacon of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. The Mercer County boys and girls won their divisions in an all-comers meet Tuesday at Harrodsburg. Host Mercer defeated second-place West Jessamine by 31 points in the boys standings at Alvis Johnson Field, and the Mercer girls were 26 points better than second-place Casey County. Summer Burke and Liz Marcinek of Burgin, Lyric Houston of Mercer, Abby Meece of Casey and Meagan Smith of Danville won two individual events each in the girls competition. Jawan Grey of Danville and Alex Beckerson of Burgin each had two wins in boys events.
