LEXINGTON - University of Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks remains convinced that the Wildcats can be productive on defense. After reviewing the film from his team's 45-36 win over Central Michigan last Saturday, the Kentucky coach said the Chippewas deserve some credit for raking up 558 yards against his defensive unit. "I was more upset after the game than I was after looking at the film," Brooks said Monday. "I happen to think Central Michigan is a very good football team.

LEXINGTON - When it comes to scoring, Kentucky's Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson have been spectacular. They are combining for about 43.8 points per game. Meeks has been in double figures 13 straight games this year and Patterson 11 of 13 going into tonight's home game against Central Michigan (3-8). Patterson is shooting 74 percent from the field because he mainly gets his points in the paint. Meeks is shooting 40 percent from 3-point range, but has also added the ability to get inside and score as shown by the 76 free throws he's attempted.

LEXINGTON - Freshman DeAndre Liggins knew he had made a mistake as soon as he refused to go back into the game. "It was just a bad day for me. Everybody makes mistakes. I did and I learned from it," said the Kentucky freshman point guard Monday. "I was just caught up in things. I was frustrated. I wanted to play (more). " Liggins refused to play the second half of UK's win over Kansas State in Las Vegas Nov. 28 after playing only two minutes in the first half. It was his return to the city where he played his final year of high school basketball and he says he overreacted to not playing more in the first half.

While growing up, my mom and dad always recalled where they were and what they were doing when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963.In addition, my grandparents remembered the Great Depression and lived to tell the grandchildren about it. Five years ago Monday, another terrible tragedy of an unprecedented nature hit the body and soul of our proud nation when terrorists struck the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, turning the Great American Dream into a nightmare in a matter of minutes.

LEXINGTON - Kentucky had 28 missed assignments on offense, breakdowns in the kicking game and missed tackles on defense. For coach Rich Brooks, that's more than enough reason his team should be over last week's 50-10 victory over Eastern Kentucky University and focusing on this Saturday's game against Kent State, a team that opened its season with a 23-14 victory at Iowa State. However, during his press conference on Monday, Brooks was asked if beating Eastern in the opener instead of playing Louisville in the opener changed the perception of the win. "It is a heck of a lot easier building off a win than a loss any time.

From: Eugene in Burgin Based on last night I think this is unfair to Rich Brooks...You said 2007 would be better...I think he needs until 2010...what do you think? He just does not have the players to compete yet. By 2010 he will have his full changes made and everyone will have been through spring ball and winter workouts under his tutelage...until he has FULL support from the fans that WE BELIEVE...he will never be able to convince the players to come to UK and become a winner.
