Holiday closings The Boyle County Courthouse will be closed Monday and Tuesday. The Garrard County Courthouse will be closed Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. The Garrard County Judicial Center will close on Saturday and reopen on Wednesday. The Danville/Boyle County Economic Development Partnership offices will be closed Monday through Jan. 1. This includes the EDP central office, Boyle County Industrial Foundation, Chamber of Commerce and Heart of Danville offices at the McClure-Barbee House, 304 S. Fourth St.; the Convention and Visitors Bureau at Grayson's Tavern, 105 E. Walnut St.; and the Main Street Perryville office and museum, 216 S. Buell St.. Offices will reopen at 9 a.m. Jan. 2. Boyle County Department of Solid Waste has restructured the days of operation for the Perryville and Forkland Convenience Centers.

In July 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution designating the second week of September as “Arts in Education Week.”  The resolution states: “(...) Arts education, comprising a rich array of disciplines, including dance, music, theatre, media arts, literature, design, and visual arts, is a core academic subject and an essential element of a complete and balanced education for all students.” The Danville Schools Education Foundation, invites you to help celebrate Arts in Education Week by joining in an exciting and entertaining fundraiser.  To kick the school year off, DSEF will host the first annual “Dancing With the Danville STARS!

MCKINNEY - McKinney Elementary's school council will make its recommendation for its new principal at a meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Lincoln County Schools central office. Superintendent Karen Hatter said the council has finished interviews and narrowed the applicants down to several finalists, who are currently being vetted. McKinney's former principal, Don Leigh, worked at the school for a decade. He was hired as the new principal of Hustonville Elementary earlier this year, after that school's principal, David Morris, resigned to become finance director for the Boyle County Board of Education.

The spokesman for the Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership will be leaving his job at the end of the month. Charlie Cox has served as the marketing and communication coordinator for the EDP and the Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitor's Bureau since January 2010. He has accepted a teaching and assistant football coaching job at West Jessamine High School. His last day will be June 30.  “I greatly appreciate Charlie's hard work under the challenging circumstances of helping to create this first-time, centralized position that serves all the partners.

Assistant Superintendent Pat Rosenthal has been a fixture in Clark County Public Schools for the past 25 years. But when her colleagues begin preparing for the upcoming school year later this summer, Rosenthal will be kicked back and enjoying the beginning of her retirement. Rosenthal announced May 18 that she would be retiring effective June 30. The decision, she said, was something she had been thinking about for the last couple of months. “I had been thinking about it and decided about a month ago that the time was right,” Rosenthal said.
