LIBERTY - Malcolm Wolford, 86, of Liberty, died Friday, at Hospice Unit Baptist Northeast in LaGrange. Born April 12, 1919, in Adair County, he was the son of the late M.V. and Claudia Goode Wolford. He was the former mayor of Liberty and was the owner of Wolford Brothers. He served on the school board and the Casey County Economic Development board. He was a member and chairman of Lake Cumberland Area Development Board Council on Aging. He was chairman of the Casey County Apple Festival and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Westside Christian Church.

Casey native named VP of state fair board LOUISVILLE - Ronald Carmicle, a native of Casey County, has been elected vice chairman of the Kentucky State Fair Board. He was appointed to the board in 2001 and reappointed in 2004. Carmicle is president of River City Development Corp. in Louisville. Tom Schifano, managing partner of Arison Insurance Services Inc., was elected chairman of the fair board. The board operates the Kentucky Exposition Center and the Kentucky International Convention Center and is an agency of the Kentucky Commerce Cabinet.

Winter Games winners announced LEXINGTON - The Bluegrass Winter Games in February and March drew more than 2,450 amateur athletes from 74 counties in Kentucky. STANFORD - Members of the Lincoln County Industrial Board are hoping a miracle will help them complete the long-awaited industrial park this month, and on Wednesday it looked like that wish might have come true. Bill Miracle, Stanford branch manager of Farmers National Bank, was unanimously named chairman of the board. Veteran chairman Bill Fox's resignation was effective Dec. 31. Board member Jeff Ralston said he supported the motion to appoint Miracle due to his experience in the banking business, real estate business and building and development industry.

PARKSVILLE - The Boyle County Fire District Board voted Tuesday night to "endorse" the action last week by Fire Chief Donnie Sexton to suspend three firefighters for their alleged involvement in 12 to 14 fires in Boyle and Marion counties over the last 18 months. The three firefighters and one former firefighter, who was dismissed from the department nine months ago for unrelated reasons, all confessed to their involvement in the fires, Sexton said at a press conference on June 8. Rusty Cox, outgoing chairman of the fire board, said today that the board's endorsement of Sexton's action came after a 30-minute executive session held to discuss personnel matters.

WTCF officers also include Garrard County Attorney Jeff Moss as vice chairman, and David Land of David Land Tax Service in Garrard County as secretary/treasurer. Turbyfill follows the term of Phil Osborne, CEO of Preston-Osborne. "Wilderness Trace Community Foundation donors last year granted over $146,000 to support the local causes and students they have identified.

The Lincoln County Board of Education honored one of its own recently as they hosted the Kentucky School Boards Association Central Kentucky Regional meeting. Virginia Shaw was recognized for her many years of service to education in Lincoln County and around the state. Shaw taught in Lincoln County and served on the board of education. Since her retirement, Shaw has worked diligently with the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, advocating increased benefits for retired teachers.

After meeting for nearly four hours in executive session to discuss the performance of Superintendent Pam Rogers, the Boyle County Board of Education took no action on Rogers' annual evaluation before adjourning after 2 a.m. Friday morning. "We have completed the evaluation, we just haven't acted on it yet," board chairman Preston Miles said. Rogers, who was hired as superintendent in 1998, is approaching the end of a four-year contract that pays her $100,621 a year, and provides her with a car and four weeks of vacation.
