The Federal Communications Commission just doesn't get it when it comes to regulating free speech, darn it! Freedom of speech doesn't automatically mean people can say every "bleeping" thing that comes into their heads, especially if they are on broadcast television. Remember, this is an industry that took decades to permit sitcom characters to use - or even refer to - the toilet. Most Americans will recall the "flap over the flap" - Janet Jackson's infamous, milli-second, partial breast exposure at the 2004 Super Bowl.

Dear Editor, The newspaper has made "much ado about nothing" in its coverage of the decision last week by the Danville school board to elect Marvin Swann as board chairman. Now that you have admitted that you were wrong to describe the board's executive session Jan. 22, as a "secret meeting" that "may have been illegal," what's left to merit the top-of-page-one coverage of the board's routine, biannual selection of a chairman? There doesn't seem to be much, other than the fact that, based on the 3-2 vote, there was obviously some disagreement among the board members as to who should be chairman.

Dear Editor, I am writing to respond to several items that have been published about the DCA financing issue. While I certainly lack the writing skills of some of these individuals, I want to provide some factual responses to the issues that have been raised. Danville Christian Academy, which has been in operation since 1996, is a fully-accredited educational institution through SACS, the same institution that accredits Centre College. It is also a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
