The last time we were at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, my long time doctor said to me rather bluntly, "Jean, you are not growing old gracefully!" And I, bluntly answered, "You bet I'm not and I have no intention to do so. " Because he is not only our doctor for 20 years, but also our friend, he knows our hearts and our spirits. He just looked at Gene and shook his head like, "Oh boy. " After that day we talked about growing older gracefully. And today, probably five years later, we still mull this question.

The best part about living in Stanford is if you don't know what you are doing, others do. I am so humble, so grateful and so very happy I live here. Recently I had pneumonia and had a bad fall that broke my foot in three places, and head staples (to hold the brains back in…LOL) I was astounded at all the calls, the Prayers, the get well wishes, best wishes, cards, flowers, offers to do for me, to take me, to come get me and of course all the Chicken Soup I needed. Most of you know I have lived all over the UNited States in big cities and other countries, but I never feel so loved and taken care of as I have these past 16 days in this small town, so please never criticize or knock small town living, it is the Greatest!

What in this wide world was in my back yard up by the barn two days ago? Gene saw it first and called me to “come look.” And there it was, a critter that looked to be a little shorter than me. He (?) had a small head, a slender body and a long, bushy tail. His color? I don’t know. Grayish reds, maybe. I stood at the dining room window watching him walk up the driveway towards the barn. Suddenly, he stopped cold, eyes “fixed” on something he deemed as dinner just off the path.

David Puckett called and shared more about the day in 1966 when Arnold Palmer played a round of golf at the Winchester Country Club. The outing was sponsored by the Winchester Jaycees and Bob Gorham was the project leader. One of the club's toughest decisions was choosing who would pick up Palmer, his pilot and two friends at Blue Grass Field in Lexington. The members ultimately concluded that, since Puckett knew the least about golf, he would get the honor. Muncie Buick provided a vehicle.
