Jessamine County comes in as the 18th-largest county in the state of Kentucky when comparing populations of the 120 counties. But when it comes to calculating how much funding Jessamine County gets for child support from the state government, 30 counties are receiving more money than Jessamine, county attorney Brian Goettl said. Goettl made a report to the Jessamine County Fiscal Court at its Aug. 2 meeting and informed the magistrates and Judge-Executive Neal Cassity that he has some serious concerns about the amount of funding Jessamine County is getting from the state for its child-support services.

STANFORD - Cedrick Byars owed $16,000 in back child support and faced five years in prison if he went to trial for flagrant nonsupport April 7 in Lincoln Circuit Court. But Judge Jeffrey T. Burdette threw the case out Friday at the recommendation of prosecutors after DNA testing proved that Byars is not the father of the son he's been supporting for more than 16 years. "I'm relieved to a certain degree, but I'm upset about it," Byars, 44, of Hustonville, said afterward. "It's caused a lot problems with my marriage and finances, a lot of mental anguish.

CRAB ORCHARD - The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office served a warrant on a man Tuesday for child support arrearage, and added drug possession and manufacturing to the charge. Sheriff Curt Folger served the warrant on Scotty Dean Lake, 43, of 624 Elm St., Apt. 7, and said when he entered the resident he found what appeared to be a marijuana joint. With permission, Folger brought in Aramis, the Lincoln County K-9 unit. After searching the residence, Folger said Aramis located what appeared to be marijuana and ingredients to make methamphetamine.

Deadbeat parents with child support cases in Boyle County can expect to feel more heat to make good on their financial obligations to their kids. "We've got an awful lot of people out there who owe a lot of money and are probably in a position to pay," said Assistant County Attorney Harold McKinney, who oversees child support cases. "We are trying to be more aggressive on some of these cases. " Proof of that tougher policy can be found in last week's meeting of a Boyle County grand jury, which issued 18 felony indictments for flagrant non-support.

DANVILLE - A Waynesburg man who makes occasional appearances on Animal Planet's "Call of the Wildman" has been arrested for flagrant non-support and lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center. Jacob Dewayne Ison, 38, is known as "Handyman" Jake Ison on the reality television show about Ernie Brown Jr., better known as "the Turtleman. " Jail records show Ison was arrested by state police on Jan. 31. He was indicted in Lincoln County in October on one count of flagrant non-support.

Jacob Dewayne Ison, 38, is known as “Handyman” Jake Ison on the reality television show about Ernie Brown Jr., better known as “the Turtleman.” Jail records show Ison was arrested by state police on Jan. 31. He was indicted in Lincoln County in October on one count of flagrant non-support.

A Danville man was indicted by a Boyle County grand jury for first-degree robbery for allegedly punching out the manager of Kroger last month while fleeing the store with merchandise for which he hadn't paid. Jeffrey Allen Alcorn, 23, of 3551 Holtzclaw St., Apt. 22, was also charged with drug trafficking and other charges stemming from an arrest on Christmas Eve. According to the indictment, Alcorn caused physical injury to Kroger manager Jeff Cuddy on Feb. 20, when Cuddy tried to stop him from leaving the store with about $100 worth of merchandise.

Bond was set at $10,000. Kari Lamb testified before the grand jury. Jacob Jones , 31, of Versailles, flagrant non-support for allegedly failing to pay child support. Bond was set at $5,000. Ashley Reynolds testified before the grand jury.

STANFORD - A Lincoln County grand jury has indicted a Waynesburg man for incest, first-degree rape and first-degree sexual abuse. Phillip G. Oney, of 100 N. Railroad St., allegedly had sex with a girl he knew was his granddaughter in December 2005, according to the indictment. The girl was less than 12 years old when Oney allegedly had "deviate sexual intercourse" and "sexual intercourse … through the use of forcible compulsion" with her, the indictment reads. Kentucky State Police Detective Michael Keeton testified against Oney, but KSP was unable to provide further details on the case.

The driver of a tractor-trailer rig who alleged fled the scene of an collision that seriously injured an elderly Danville woman has been indicted on eight felony counts by a Boyle County grand jury. Michael Calligaro, 55, of Arlington, Texas, was indicted for leaving the scene of an accident, five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief.  Golden Wilson, 80, suffered serious injuries to her head and face in the crash that occurred Dec. 17 on U.S. 127 Bypass near Lebanon Road when a semi truck rear-ended her vehicle.

HARRODSBURG - Two men have been indicted by a Mercer County grand jury for allegedly breaking into a warehouse at Corning Inc. and stealing copper wire on three seperate occassions. Dameon Devine, 23, of 315 James St., Harrodsburg, and Edward Robertson, 23, of 504 E. Main St, Danville, were each indicted on three counts of burglary and three counts of theft more than $500, for allegedly unlawfully entering the Corning property and stealing large amounts of copper. The alleged thefts occurred between Nov. 7 and Nov. 25. Bonds were set at $10,000.

Family court will have to wait a few more days to move into its newly renovated space at the Boyle County Courthouse, and judging by Monday's caseload, it won't be a minute too soon. Workers are putting the finishing touches on the $180,000 project that will allow the increasingly busy court to have its own space after years of shuffling between rooms intended for other courts. On Monday, Judge Bruce Petrie, who presides over family court in Boyle and Mercer counties, was in the district court chambers while lines of people packed the third-floor hallway.
