NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Anthony Hickey of LSU needed some “guidance” from coach Johnny Jones earlier this season, but now the former Christian County standout seems to be playing his best for the Tigers. “I thought early there were some challenges there for Anthony,” Jones said Wednesday before the start of the Southeastern Conference tournament. Jones said he wanted to make sure Hickey “was on the right path” and showing the leadership the team needed at point guard. “I think he struggled with that early on, but I think he's grasped it and I think he's welcomed it with open arms,” Jones said.

HARRODSBURG - The Mercer County Conservation District office will have the help of Nick Christian for the next 10 months or so while he completes some of his training to become a district conservationist. The staff here can use the help. District Conservationist Joe Montgomery says the workload for the Natural Resources and Conservation Service has increased over recent years and more money is available through the federal government and from tobacco settlement dollars. Montgomery said Christian came to the service at a good time; jobs are opening up because of retirement of some officials and the added funding.

George Rogers Clark's seniors played well Thursday in the team's Sweet Sixteen win over Christian County, but it was two of the youngest players on the floor who made some of the biggest contributions. Sophomore Robert Hatton scored 12 points and had three assists, and eighth-grader Robbie Stenzel tallied nine points and committed only one turnover in the Cardinals' overtime win. Their poise and calm under the pressure of playing at Rupp Arena in the state finals came as no surprise to Clark coach Scott Humphrey or star guard Preston Knowles, a senior.
