FORKLAND - The Forkland Community Center will be the site of the annual Christmas Dinner here, set for Dec. 3. The Christmas Dinner will include a home-cooked meal, holiday decorations, a sweet shop selling confections, and musical entertainment. The dinner begins with a relish tray and cranberry salad. It continues with turkey, ham, dressing, gravy, green beans, corn pudding, sweet potato casserole, scalloped oysters and sourdough bread. Dessert will be homemade jam cake. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. for punch and entertainment.

The Winchester Lions Club held its annual Christmas dinner at Sid's Place recently. Following the dinner, a gift raffle provided entertainment for the evening. Chapter 1828 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association met at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the First Church of God for its Christmas dinner. Wes Maynard, Pam Maynard, Josh Maynard and John Mattingly of the bluegrass band Pickin' Time provided the musical program. Pink Ribbon Partners to meet The Pink Ribbon Partners will have a Christmas dinner and ornament exchange Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Bailey's Cafe on South Main Street. Parks and Recreation The Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation Board will have a reception for recently retired director Donnie Parsons 5-6 p.m. Monday at the College Park Library. The monthly meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m. Clark County Kiwanis The Clark County Kiwanis Club will have its Christmas dinner at 6 p.m. Monday at the former Radisson Hotel in Lexington.

Dec. 30, 1983 Members of the First Nighters Homemakers Club and their families met recently for a Christmas dinner at the home of Verna and William Eaton, Meadowbrook. Piano selections were played by Vonda Lowry and a scenic travelogue of western states was shown by Mrs. Eaton. The George Rogers Clark Cardinals moved into the finals of the Montgomery County Christmas Tournament Thursday with a convincing 70-50 win over 10th region rival Bourbon County.

Mrs. Don (Sally) Miller had the misfortune recently to break her foot. She has suffered a great deal since that time. Mr. and Mrs. David Gambrel attended the Gaither Gospel Concert in Lexington at the Rupp Arena last Saturday evening. The Christian Church Christmas dinner will be held in the fellowship hall at 6 p.m. this Saturday evening (Dec. 15). Mrs. Lillian Jenkins, who was on the sick list last week, is better but not getting out yet. As is their custom each Christmas season, David and Kelly Gambrel hosted a Christmas dinner at their home.

The attendance Sunday morning at the Green River Pentecostal Church was 241. The church Christmas plays will be held Sunday evening, Dec. 23 beginning at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to come. There will be Christmas play practice Saturday night at 6 p.m. Sis. Alice Carpenter asks everyone who has a part to please be present. The men of the church had their annual Christmas dinner Tuesday at the Kentucky Depot. We will be sending a care package to Paul Toko who is a missionary from Africa.

Jan. 6, 1987 Joshua David Watts was born at 11:12 a.m. Jan. 4 at Clark County Hospital. The son of Laverta and David Earl Watts, he is the first baby born in Clark County in 1987. Sales resumed on the Winchester Tobacco Market Monday following a two-week holiday recess with averages up more than $10 per hundredweight. Employees of the Corner Drug Store were entertained with a Christmas dinner Friday, Dec. 26, at the Continental Inn, Lexington.

STANFORD - Christmas came a few days early for hundreds of low-income Lincoln County children and their families who attended this year's Winterfest on Friday at Lincoln County High School. After a year of fundraising and working with teachers to identify students who could benefit the most from a little extra Christmas joy, it was time to continue the decades-old tradition in Lincoln County of feeding the kids and their families and handing out Christmas gifts. Winterfest Committee Chairwoman Kendra Mitchell said this year, 235 children and their families were invited to Winterfest.

To the editor: The Sun ran a story last week concerning a shortage of food and a shortage of money with which to buy food at the Clark County Community Services. Several hundred of the less fortunate citizens of Clark County depend on CCCS for some of their food and without this great resource they would go hungry for at least part of each month. Those of us who are blessed to have a nice home, a job and plenty of food on our tables should remember those who are not as fortunate.

The first families began arriving at Emmanuel Episcopal Church around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, long before the 10 a.m. start of the 41st annual Operation Happiness. The church sanctuary quickly filled up, and the line spilled outside as more than 400 volunteers made last minute preparations to serve the 1,435 families who had signed up to receive boxes of food, clothing and toys for children during the event. As the distribution began and individuals worked their way through the many stations picking up items, there were many hugs and heartfelt thank yous for the volunteers.
