Amy Cromer and her three children lost everything in the fire at their house, including their Christmas...

Dear Editor, I love a real tree for Christmas. Many of my friends use an artificial tree and my family has even pondered the question itself. Sure the mess is less and you don't have to maintain it. But I still like the fact of the real sappy tree. Many of trees are gone and sometimes it's hard to find a place where you cut your own tree. I believe Boy Scout Troop 27 has some of the greatest Christmas trees that you can find in town. The trees are being sold on the corner of Fourth and Main streets right next to the Danville Fire Department.

Let me start off by saying I’m not Scrooge, nor am I the Grinch. I love Christmas. But for all of my adult life (I count from the age of 18 when I left home to join the Air Force), I have never put up a Christmas tree. The reason was simple, at least in my rationale. I was single, and more often than not, I would either go home or be invited over to friends’ houses on Christmas day. Well, one year turned into two, and so on and so forth, and all of a sudden, I found myself 30 years old, single and not ever having put up a Christmas tree.

LANCASTER - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This phrase rings true in many facets of life, including Christmas trees. This is the first year Steve McManus, owner and operator of Cathole Bend Plantation Christmas Tree Farm, has opened his farm up to the public. It's the first year the trees have been ready to harvest. "The trees that are ready to be cut have been growing here for five years," McManus said. "When we transplant them they are usually between 2-5 years old. You have to have a certain passion for it because you are going to have a five year lead time before you get to see the results of your work.

AN ACT OF KINDNESS SHOULDN'T BE A CRIME To the Sun: I would like to give my view on the article written regarding the gracious act of our police officers toward the lady whose water was to be shut off. I found it refreshing that our law enforcement officers showed such compassion and kindness to someone in distress. On the other hand, I found it appalling the way a so-called service organization retaliated against this act of kindness with such insensitivity. God bless the officers, and God help people that make a crime out of an act of humanity.

My 30-year-old hand-me-down Christmas tree has resumed its rightful place in my living room for another holiday season. When I drug it out of the closet, I had a weird feeling that it was only yesterday that I was putting it in the closet. Probably because it was only April. Nothing says "Happy Easter" like a Christmas tree that's been around longer than I have. Maybe I should invest in some new decorations ? ornaments fit for any occasion, since, apparently, the tree is going to be around for all occasions.
