A Georgetown man accused of attempted sexual contact with an 8-year-old girl waived his case to the grand jury. Zachary Myers, 21, appeared in Clark District Court Wednesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing for a single count of attempted first-degree sodomy, but his attorney decided to forego the hearing and send the case directly to the grand jury. Myers was arrested in April concerning an incident that occurred in December 2012. According to the arrest warrant, Myers was staying in a friend's home on Stamper Drive on Dec. 1, 2012.

JOE W. PASLEY JR. Joe W. Pasley Jr., 60, of Clark County, husband of Edna B. Pasley, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.  Mr. Pasley was born in Clark County Sept. 27, 1952.  He was a farmer and a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Jason) Pasley Oakes of Clark County; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Faith Oakes, Bailey Mae Oakes and William Barry Oakes; and two sisters, Grace Pasley and Patricia Ann (Jim)

Apollo Oil blood to host blood drive Kentucky Blood Center will have a blood drive at Apollo Oil LLC, 1175 Early Drive, Winchester, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 20. Best Communities event time changed The Clark County Community Education Program and its community partners will host a celebration Jan. 17 at 4:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 37 N. Highland St., in honor of Winchester/Clark County being named by America’s Promise as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People and to recognize community service to youth.

The Clark County treasurer tendered her letter of resignation in a special fiscal court meeting Friday. In the letter, Tina Lynn, who has served as the county's treasurer since July 2010, called the working relationship between the treasurer's office and Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham's office “contentious and adversarial.” Lynn originally gave a final date of employment of Sept. 12, but county commissioners asked her to stay through Sept. 14. Lynn agreed to the request.

On Sunday, Jan. 22, the West Jessamine bowling teams defeated Clark County. The Lady Colts won 5-2 and the Colts won 4-3. West's next match is Thursday against Lexington Catholic.

A white barn on Van Meter Road was in stark contrast to the extremely dark storm clouds that passed by around 1:30 Thursday afternoon. The dark clouds, accompanying a cold front, spawned a tornado warning for the northeastern section of Clark County. Strong winds accompanied the cold front through the county. No damage was reported. Oct. 5, 1986 A surprise personal shower was given for Kathy Robak at the October meeting of the Little Women Homemakers held at the home of Mrs. Robak. Marge Whitley, president, conducted the meeting and the devotional, “Just a Thought,” was given by Evelyn Ballard, who also led in prayer.

Edna Mae Patterson, 84, widow of Homer Patterson, went to be with the lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Mrs. Patterson was born in Fayette County on Sept. 1, 1928, to the late George Robert Biddle and Jennie Clemons Biddle. Mrs. Patterson was a loving mother, homemaker, farmer and was known for her quilts. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club in Clark and Bourbon counties and a member of Clintonville Christian Church. Survivors include two sons, Harold Patterson and Homer Patterson, both of Clark County; one daughter, Wanda Davis of Fayette County; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geneva Ginter, Dorothy Burns and Cora Witt; two brothers, Lee Biddle and David Biddle; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Clark County 4-H Sewing Club has finished another great year at the 2013 Fashion Revue last weekend.  This year's theme was “Run for the Roses!” and decorations were created by Senior Sewers and 4-H Leadership Clubs. It was a great evening had by all as youth showcased their sewing projects, exhibited photos and raised money for Relay for Life with a photo booth, bake sale and silent auction. Sewing youth were judged on two separate occasions. Youth were judged on project construction and modeling presentation.

In a letter sent to the board from Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday, seven steps are laid out for the board to return to the current facilities plan. Failure to comply will result in a loss of Support Education Excellence in Kentucky money for the district. SEEK money is awarded to school districts based on attendance. Last year, the district received $17,582,098 in SEEK funding, or about 40 percent of the district's general fund of $38,237,557. Next year, the school district expects to receive around $17,471,215.

The Wades Mill Homemakers met April 4 at the Clark County Extension Office. The meeting was opened with a devoational from Dianna Barnes. Roll call was taken by answering, “What are your trip plans for the summer?” The lesson, “Decorating on a Dime,” was given by Ann Barker. Hostess for the Mexican-themed lunch was Patty Frye. Those attending were Dolores Hess, Dianna Barnes, Cathy Gatson, Patty Frye, Mary Ann Combs, Ann Barker, Maryett Gyula, Joyce Gillman, Nancy Burchett, Clara Kendig, Bette McKenzie, Jane Shaw and Betsy Wells.

What's new at the library this week? Well, just about everything. Over the past few months significant changes and improvements have been made to every section of the library. First of all, the entire collection was “weeded.” That means library staff went through every section of the library - book by book, item by item - with printouts that showed the date each piece was added to the collection, the last date it circulated and the number of times it circulated. Doing that allowed us to withdraw items that were obsolete, no longer circulating or too ragged to be appealing anymore.

Jennifer Berryman King, 62, wife of Paul King, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Mrs. King was born in Clark County on Jan. 22, 1951, to the late JR Berryman and Janice Thacker Justice. Mrs. King was a loving mother, homemaker, bookkeeper and co-owner of Paul and Sons Salvage. Survivors include two sons, Vince (Monica) King of Lexington,  Chris (Sherri) King of Clark County; three grandsons, Clay, Colby and Kasey King; one granddaughter, Courtney King; one half sister, Suzie McDonald; mother-in-law, Minnie Hatton King; and a special niece, Leslie Kay King.

Moreen Bybee Hooten, 93, expired Wednesday at Clark Regional Medical Center. She was born in Clark County to the late William and Louella Bybee. She was the widow of Mark Hooten Sr. She was a member of Broadway Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for First Christian Church and retired after many years of service. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Ronnie) Caywood; three sons, Donald Lee (Gwen) Hooten, Curtis Hooten and Mark Hooten Jr., all of Winchester; one sister-in-law, Gwen Bybee of Covington; one niece and two nephews; and two special friends, Susie Hooten and Charlotte Woods.

The Boonesboro Civil War Living History event scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to rain in the forecast. “(The cancellation was due to) simply weather,” Winchester Tourism Director Nancy Turner said. “There's a danger with lightning and slick trails.” Prior to planning the event, a cancelation was likely in the event of rain because of the delicacy of authentic Civil War items, such as the 12th Artillery cannon. Turner said past events have attracted 600 to800 people.

Earl Lynn Brinegar, 54, of Winchester, husband to Sonya Reynolds Brinegar, passed away Tuesday at the Clark Regional Medical Center. He was born in Detroit, Mich. on Dec. 25, 1958, to the late Pleas and Marietta Powell Brinegar. He was a retired general contractor and member of the Pentecostal faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Billy Joe Brinegar of Winchester; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy (Pam) Brinegar, Jackie (Vickie) Brinegar and Jim (Sheila)
