LEXINGTON - Three men have been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly conspiring to distribute more than 17 pounds of cocaine in Lincoln County and elsewhere. Marvin “Buddy” Herring, 53, of Stanford, Roger P. Elmore, 61, of Grove Ridge in Casey County, and Kyle Todd, 22, of Stanford made their initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Lexington on Tuesday after being indicted on Jan. 10. They allegedly conspired to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine in Lincoln County and elsewhere between January and October in 2011.

A traffic stop, a two-month investigation and a search of a Montgomery County home led the Clark County Sheriff's Office to its biggest cocaine bust in history. Earlier this week, detectives confiscated slightly more than a pound of cocaine, 45 Lortab pills and $4,000 in cash from a Mount Sterling woman, Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said. "That's the most cocaine that's been confiscated at one time in Clark County," Perdue said, valuing the cocaine at $29,000. The pills were worth another $400, he said.

In the 1980s, I watched a lot of people get hooked and never get un-hooked. I didn't want to be one of them. Food is another matter. I've battled my weight all my life. When a study came out that said sugar was more addictive than cocaine, I didn't doubt it for a minute. I've never had a problem with cocaine.

By Michael Broihier   For a store that has a hard time keeping cigarettes in stock, the Crossroads Market on US 137 in Hustonville is apparently providing a lot of other products. Friday afternoon, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office conducted a joint-raid with the Hustonville Police Department to execute a warrant in search of a suspected drug dealing operation. Sheriff Curt Folger said that his office had been working closely with Hustonville PD Chief Fred McCoy over the last several months and had recently executed an undercover drug buy at the busy market.

The mother of a toddler who ingested cocaine last fall will not have to spend any time in prison if she stays out of trouble for the next five years. Ashley Carrier, 21, pleaded guilty Thursday in Boyle Circuit Court to four counts of wanton endangerment. As part of a plea deal recommended by prosecutors, Carrier can avoid a four-year prison sentence by completing a five-year diversion program. Judge Darren Peckler will sentence Carrier on Aug. 5. In asking the judge for a later sentencing date, public defender Melissa Bellew told Peckler that Carrier is nine months pregnant.

PARKSVILLE - Two men were arrested in an early morning drug raid today at a Parksville residence where the Boyle County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant. Deputy Sheriff Brian Wofford said the search was made about 3:48 a.m. after the sheriff's department received several complaints about narcotic trafficking at the Old Mitchellsburg Road residence. A large amount of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia, including plastic bags and scales, was confiscated from the residence.

A Boyle County grand jury will consider the cases of two women charged after an 18-month-old child tested positive for cocaine. After a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Boyle District Judge Jeff Dotson decided there was enough evidence to send the cases of the child's mother, Ashley Carrier, and aunt, Jessica Coffman, to a grand jury, which next meets Nov. 5. The two woman were each charged last month with first-degree assault and wanton endangerment...

Two Danville men were arrested on drug charges Wednesday night following a Danville Police Department investigation. About 8 p.m. Wednesday, Danville officers stopped a car on Affirmed Drive driven by Christopher A. Pope, 19, of 325 Affirmed Drive, police said. The officers stopped the car in reference to an outstanding felony warrant for trafficking in cocaine against Pope and arrested him on that charge, police said. Officers then obtained a search warrant for 325 Affirmed Drive, which was described by police as the "joint residence" of Pope and a passenger in his car, James Lynn III, 19. After the search, officers charged each man with trafficking in cocaine and marijuana, police said.

Boyle County deputy sheriffs arrested three men on multiple drug charges following a traffic stop early this morning. Deputies pulled over a vehicle driven by Josh Denson, 26, of Junction City about 1:50 a.m. on Carrigan Drive in Danville. A subsequent search by a drug dog detected narcotics in the vehicle. Denson along with passengers Michael Gorley, 32, and Allen Vinyard, 39, both of Danville, were charged with first-degree cocaine possession. Gorley also faces charges of first-degree promoting contraband, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Oxycontin.

During a traffic stop Friday morning, Boyle County deputy sheriffs arrested a Lexington man for alleged possession of heroin and crack cocaine. Darius L. Hale, 30, is charged with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence and several traffic offenses including driving on a suspended operator's license. Two deputies stopped Hale on Gose Pike near Old Stanford Road; authorities suspected he was driving under the influence, police said.

The following people were indicted recently by a Boyle County grand jury: Michael Ashby, 22, 44 Shakerpoint Drive, alleged possession of cocaine and marijuana on Oct. 21. Bond was set at $1,000. Danville Officer Pedro Lemos testified before the grand jury. Ryan T. Buaghman, 20, 1280 Harberson Lane, two counts of allegedly trafficking in cocaine on March 21 and April 13. Bond was set at $20,000. Kentucky State Police Detective Keith Addison testified. Stevie Berry, 55, of Junction City, alleged possession of cocaine on Aug. 5. Bond was set at $5,000.

Henry Spiller, Director of the Kentucky Poison Control Center, said that drugs being sold in Kentucky retail outlets variously as insect repellant, stain remover and bath salts are being snorted, smoked or injected and are extremely dangerous. You can buy them here in Lincoln County at the D&M Market in Crab Orchard. A source told The Interior Journal that they recently had contact with a person who was “bouncing off the walls” who said that he had purchased a quarter gram of White Lightning from the D&M Market.

STANFORD — All of the cases heard by a recent Lincoln County grand jury involved drug-trafficking suspects charged in “November Rain,” a year-long undercover operation by multiple police agencies that netted more than 100 sealed indictments in several central Kentucky counties. All of those indicted in Lincoln County are charged with selling to a confidential informant. Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon Curlis and detective Keith Addision were the grand jury witnesses.

The sheriff's offices in Garrard and Boyle counties worked together last week to discover a large amount of crack cocaine in a Danville residence and arrest the woman they say was selling it. On Thursday, deputies served a search warrant for 240 Baughman Ave., obtained through an earlier investigation by the Garrard County Sheriff's Office. Elizabeth Marie Leavell, 28, of 240 Baughman Ave., was arrested after deputies discovered "a large quantity of crack cocaine" in her house, according to a news release.
