Dakota giggled and wiggled as he sat on his mother's hip. Cassandra Kleitz was thinking about her favorite part of being a mother when her 1-year-old son answered the question for her by wrapping his arms around her neck. "The lovin's," she said, laughing. "Like right now, huh?" Dakota is Kleitz's first child, and the two are learning about each other together in a Boyle County Health Department program called HANDS. The acronym stands for health, access, nurturing, development services, and is available to first-time moms and dads in every county through local health departments.

Clark County Board of Education Chairwoman Debbie Fatkin and board member Minnie Spangler filed for re-election Wednesday, making them them the first candidates to put their names on the November ballot. Neither candidate faced opposition as of this morning. The deadline to file for the election is Aug. 12. Fatkin represents District 3, a portion of Winchester situated primarily between Lexington and Colby roads. She was named chairwoman of the school board in January, replacing board member Judy Hicks.

Roberta G. Warren, 64, wife of Wayne Warren, died Sept. 5 after a brief illness. Before her retirement, she served as director for more than 25 years for the American Red Cross for Jessamine and Woodford counties. Additional survivors include two children, Laura and Wayne Warren; two grandchildren who were the loves of her life, Colby and Blake Warren; three sisters, Bonnie Barnes, Joy Smith and Elizabeth Watson; and a brother, James Barnes. Services were 2 p.m. Saturday at Betts & West Funeral Home.  Visitation was from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

April 10, 1987 The Cultural Arts Club held its March meeting at the home of Jeanecia Simmons with Mrs. Jackie Jones as hostess. Present were Mrs. Geneva Simmons, Mrs. Betty Smith, Mrs. Bobbie Chenault, Mrs. Simmons and Mrs. Jones. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Alena Jordan, 34-A Spruce Court. Seven Winchester women have been selected for inclusion in the 1986 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America. The seven are Kandace Renee Profitt, Judy Ann Singleton, Susan Moncure Lewis, Elaine Smith, Peggy Lee Oliver, Charlene Florence Gentry and Sara Elaine Farris.

Johnny Graves, left, and Paul Howard, deputies with the Clark County Sheriff's Office, begin their investigation into a single vehicle accident that happened Tuesday morning on Colby Road just past Basin Springs Road. Two females in the vehicle were treated at the scene by Winchester Fire-EMS. The driver, Mary Casey of Clay City, lost control of her car and struck a tree and a fence. Wet road conditions may have contributed to several wrecks throughout the day in Winchester and Clark County.
