Danny Trevathan knows what to expect when Kentucky takes on instate rival Louisville Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. “It's a heated rivalry,” he said. The senior linebacker has never lost to the Cardinals and would like nothing better than to end his collegiate career with a win over Louisville, but knows it won't be an easy task. Kentucky has won the past four meetings between the two teams and wants to extend that streak to five this weekend. “They're a dangerous team,” Trevathan said.

LEXINGTON - Junior linebacker Ridge Wilson has 11 tackles in two games, including seven in Saturday's win over Central Michigan. However, that doesn't mean Kentucky coach Joker Phillips has not been impressed with his play even if his numbers don't match those of UK¿linebackers Winston Guy and Danny Trevathan, UK's leading tacklers. “I think he has played really well. Our (defensive) guys are really pleased with him,” said Phillips Sunday. “He is starting to strike people and played with more effort.

LEXINGTON - Dennis and Derrick Johnson said kids want a “wow” factor with their football these days, and the former Harrodsburg and University of Kentucky players tried to give them that this week with their camp and showing off the University of Kentucky facilties. “There’s a lot of camps. They want to see it all. They watch TV and see Oregon and they like all that big-time fancy stuff. That’s a good selling point,”¿said Dennis Johnson, who brought his sixth annual camp to the Nutter Center here Thursday.

Louisville coach Charlie Strong has been part of enough college football rivalries that he was not surprised by anything about the Kentucky-Louisville rivalry during his first season with the Cardinals. “What you would like is for both teams to get better and become an even bigger and better rivalry when we both get better. But it’s good for the state now. Any time you have two schools that are battling and have a rivalry, it’s good for football in the state,” said Strong, who will face Kentucky for the second time Sept.

Even though her son had already signed with Kentucky, Angela Cobbins still had a few concerns about her son being so far from his New Orleans home for his collegiate football career. Or at least she did until she came to UK’s Blue-White game to end spring practice in late April. She got to meet Leslie Phillips, the wife of head coach Joker Phillips, along with the wives of assistant coaches Tee Martin and David Turner. “They were all beautiful,” said Angela Cobbins. “Joker’s wife was a bomb.

For the last six years, there has been close to one given on the Kentucky football team — when the Cats needed a big play, No. 18 was more than capable of making it. From 2005 through 2007, it was tight end Jacob Tamme wearing No. 18 for the Wildcats. He had a knack for making clutch catches on throws from Andre Woodson and helped UK beat eventual national champion LSU and Georgia in goal-post games at Commonwealth Stadium and also was part of two straight bowl wins. From 2008 through 2010, it was versatile Randall Cobb wearing No. 18. He could make a huge play running, throwing, receiving or returning kicks.

LEXINGTON — Larry Warford admits that things have changed a lot for him since he arrived at Kentucky as an overweight offensive lineman out of Madison Central High School two years ago. “When I first got here, I felt a little bit more comfortable. I had a lot of time and was not rushed to learn everything so quickly,” said Warford. “I just had a lot of time to learn, but now this year if I mess up, somebody is going to know because they are looking for it. I have to be perfect every time, and that’s hard.” That’s because Warford has gone from playing in 10 games mostly as a reserve right guard in 2009 to a second-team all-Southeastern Conference selection last year when he led the Wildcats with 43 knockdown blocks.
