GTE/Sylvania/Osram retirees meet Thursday Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram retirees will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Taste of China in Winchester. Community Education, a program of the Clark County Schools, is offering two winter sessions of state registered nurse aide training: Session I : Tuesday/Thursday evening classes, Jan. 3 - Feb. 21, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Session II : Saturdays, Feb. 23 - April 20, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each session is 75 hours and will consist of classroom instruction and clinical time. Cost is $270 (includes nonrefundable $10 registration fee). Additional costs include textbook and state exam fee. Community Education will offer a concealed/carry weapons training on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Clark County Board of Education Office, 1600 W. Lexington Ave. The cost is $75. Students must register and pay in advance. For more information, or to register, call 745-3946.

Mic Shields of Ads-Hancor helps Clark Middle School student Gateland Myers with a class assignment during a sixth grade math class at Clark Middle School. Shields is one of five mentors from Ads-Hancor who are helping students at Clark Middle. The volunteers are paid for one hour of mentoring work by their employer. The program is coordinated through the Partners in Education Program and Community Education.

Students at Conkwright Middle showed off their science projects Thursday night. The projects were judged by volunteers rounded up by Community Education, and winners will move on to the regional science fair at Rupp Arena. Local students will have an opportunity to learn about job and education possibilities next month during the College and Career Fair at George Rogers Clark High School. And organizers are hoping that additional businesses will sign up by Tuesday. The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on April 1, is being sponsored by the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce, the Clark County Community Education Program and the GRC Youth Services Center. It is expected to feature dozens of businesses and at least nine area colleges.

BUSH/SHEARER COUNCIL TO MEET The Advisory Council for the Bush/Shearer Family Resource Center will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 at Shearer Elementary, 244 E. Broadway. COMMUNITY EDUCATION OFFERS SUMMER CLASS Community Education will offer a summer class in Middle Eastern Dance. The Middle Eastern Dance class will meet Mondays from May 7 to June 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The cost is $35. The first class will meet at College Park Gym, with the remaining classes at the Clark County Public Library.
