All week Danville coach Sam Harp feared that his team was still celebrating a win over Boyle County way too much. Friday night he found out he was exactly right. The host Admirals gave up an nine-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to open the game and had to hold on in the closing minutes to beat Corbin 28-21 at Admiral Stadium thanks in large part to quarterback Devonta Alcorn, who ran for 95 yards and two scores and threw for 118 yards and another touchdown. “It was a win, but we sure were flat,” said Harp.

It's not hard for Danville coach Sam Harp to figure out what Corbin will do. The problem is slowing down the Redhounds' balanced attack. Danville will try to do just that Friday in Corbin while bouncing back from its first loss of the season. “I think they have a good mix. They are more run-oriented, but they are capable of throwing the ball,”¿Harp said. “They'll try to get you in an unbalanced set and try to hurt you there. Or they'll line up in a false trips (three receivers)

It was one of the biggest wins Danville has had in recent years, but it's ancient history to Sam Harp. And the Danville coach said he believes the Admirals are taking the same approach this week in practice and will continue to do so Friday when they host Corbin in the first game following their win over Boyle County last week. Danville's 28-21 victory in the crosstown rivalry was cause for celebration for the Admirals and their fans, but almost immediately after the game Harp and his assistants began emphasizing the importance of moving on, and he thinks the players have responded to that message.

Garrard County coach Steve Stonebraker expected his team to give Corbin a competitive game in the Class AA playoffs even though his Golden Lions had been dismantled 61-6 by the Redhounds in their final regular season game. Garrard did exactly that, too, as it trailed 20-6 in the third quarter before eventually losing 55-6 at Corbin on Friday. "I am proud of the effort of our kids. We started the game a lot better than we did a week ago. It could have been even more competitive if we had scored when we had a chance in the second quarter," Stonebrake said.

LIBERTY - Marcus Patterson's 90-yard kickoff return enabled host Casey County to tie Corbin 7-7 early in the first quarter Friday. However, the rest of the quarter belonged to the visiting Redhounds. Corbin scored 34 more points in the first quarter and settled for a 41-19 win over Casey. "The biggest thing was that we couldn't stop Corbin in the first quarter," Casey coach Andy Stephens said. "They were 7-for-7 passing for 149 yards and ran for 109 yards, all in the first quarter.

Jessica Upchurch led the game scoring with 20 points and Nikki Bustle added 17 points as the Lincoln County girls downed the host Lady Redhounds 48-42 at Corbin last Thursday. Upchurch boosted her point total with four 3-point shots and Bustle drained five treys in a 9-for-18 effort from behind the arc. "I really felt like Jessica and Nikki had one of their better games of the year and played well offensively," said Lincoln coach Don Story. "Keira Henderson had eight points and 10 rebounds, and really played well inside for us, especially in the second half.

LANCASTER - It definitely wasn't the way coach Steve Stonebraker wanted Garrard County to wrap up its regular season. Knowing his team would play Corbin two weeks in a row no matter what happened last week, Stonebraker was hoping his Golden Lions would have a better showing than the 61-6 loss the Redhounds put on them here. Now the Garrard coach wants his team to put that loss behind it because now the Golden Lions have to regroup and get ready to face Corbin on its home field Friday in the first round of the Class AA playoffs.

LANCASTER - Playing at Corbin is always a difficult challenge, especially for district opponents. However, Friday's game is going to be even more challenging than normal for Garrard County. The Golden Lions are still grieving over the death last week of receiver-defensive back Jonathan McCullough, even as they face a game that will determine their playoff position. "We have had a lot to handle and most of us just needed a little time to exhale," Garrard coach Steve Stonebraker said.

SOMERSET - Garrard County fought back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game, but couldn't get the winning goal in a 2-2 tie with Corbin Wednesday in the Pulaski Cup. The game was ruled a tie in regulation, and no tie-breakers were held. Corbin led 1-0 at the half and scored its second goal about 10 minutes into the second half. Garrard coach Jon Martin said his team took too long to get going. "The comeback was very exciting, but our lack of focus and intensity led to the 2-0 deficit," Martin said.
