HARRODSBURG - An advertisement in local newspapers says the committee leading the fight against liquor-by-the-drink here may publish the names of those signing a petition to put the measure on the ballot. The ad in today's Advocate and Thursday's Harrodsburg Herald reads: "Did you really sign the 'wet' petition?" Local attorney Mike Conover, who has led opposition in previous local option elections, said his group had been informed by the county clerk that in the past there have been names entered multiple times.

HARRODSBURG - Approving the renaming of the bypass, accepting excess fees, making an Industrial Authority appointment and altering a lease agreement were major actions at Tuesday's Mercer County Fiscal Court meeting. People who have had business with the Mercer County clerk over the last 15 years may have gotten a sense of deja vu in the last three months or so. Ralph Morris has returned to the clerk's office almost 14 years after he retired from the office. He is not there as the clerk but as an experienced helper to the newly appointed clerk. When Bruce Harper was named to replace Larry Short who resigned just six months into his fourth term, Harper called Morris. "He said he needed help getting caught up," Morris said last week.

STANFORD - Veteran school board member David Hacker might not be listed on the ballot this year, but through no decision of his own. Hacker was told at the County Clerk's office he had missed the filing deadline by minutes when went to file for school board candidacy on Tuesday. He would have been seeking a third, four-year term. But that depends on who's watch you're watching, said Hacker, who claims he actually had several minutes to spare when tried to enter the courthouse doors and found himself locked out. He would have met the 4 p.m. deadline if he did not have to circumvent the courthouse to find an open door, Hacker said.

Dear Editor, I am writing in reference to the precinct change. We tried to get our precinct changed back to the Mount Freeman Church. Our precinct is West Junction City. The precinct consists of the following area: Starting west of Junction City limits to White Oak Road, Forkland Road, Reynolds Branch, Worlds Town Road, Phillips Lane, Hogue Hollow Road, Nosco Road, Rosel Road, Dye Hollow, Oscar Johnson Road, Alum Springs and Cream Ridge. After hearing so many complaints about the precinct changes, I initiated a petition - went door-to-door obtaining signatures from citizens in our community.

WAYNESBURG - A Lincoln County voter of 32 years voiced his concern today over only two machines being used Tuesday in District 1. Jack Davis, a local farmer, said there's no way every registered voter would get a turn after doing the math. "There's 1,289 registered voters in District 1, and if you average two minutes per voter, that means 30 people an hour," Davis said. "After 12 hours, that's 360 people. On only two machines, that means 720 people are able to vote. " George O. "Sonny" Spoonamore, county clerk, agreed.

Hill has worked with Hackley since 1998 and says she knows what to expect and that people can trust her experience. "I know what the job involves,â
