LIBERTY - With the help of state funds, a new bridge will be constructed over Goose Creek on Windsor Road. Judge-Executive Ronald Wright told Casey Fiscal Court Monday that the county will get up to $160,000 from the state Transportation Cabinet for the construction. The court passed a resolution to accept the money and will be responsible for the remainder of the costs. Wright said he does not expect the bid to be under $160,000. The court agreed to advertise for bids on the project.

BRYANTSVILLE ? Two roads in northern Garrard County are being resurfaced, thanks to state funds that were donated to county road projects. The Clark County Fiscal Court on Wednesday backed efforts by the Winchester Board of Commissioners to name the new northeast bypass in honor of veterans. The court unanimously supported a joint resolution with the city that asks the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to designate the roadway as the Veterans Memorial Parkway. City commissioners approved the resolution in August, and Mayor Ed Burtner appeared before the court Wednesday to formally request a joint action. "This is something that I feel very deeply about - it's something that I feel is important," Burtner said, adding that the Interstate 64 Purple Heart Trail is the only local road name in honor of veterans.

Some Jessamine County residents have approached fiscal court about the possibility of being exempted from the current hook-up fee for connecting to the county sewer lines. The residents are asking the court to amend an ordinance exempting people living on five acres or more from having to pay the fee, citing the high cost of running sewer lines from their homes to the county's main line. Third district magistrate Terry Meckstroth said several residents on Murphy's Lane have requested the exemption because it would cost around $10,000 for them to hook up because their homes set so far back from the line.
