The Crab Orchard Veterans Monument Committee will be holding its 2nd annual candlelight service to honor veterans 8:15 p.m. May 27 at Veterans Park. There will be a speaker and special music. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The city of Crab Orchard Water Department has lifted the boil water advisory for the customers on the entire Crab Orchard water system as of 11:52 a.m. on Dec. 21, 2012. This advisory was due to recent waterline break, which had the potential to allow contamination to enter the water system. All sample testing has come back clean of contaminates and as usual, safe to drink.

CRAB ORCHARD - Drivers traveling through Crab Orchard will need to adjust to a substantial change in traffic flow with the addition of a three-way stop at the intersection of Ky. 39 and Ky. 2750 (Old U.S. 150). Previously, southbound drivers on Ky. 39 had to stop, while drivers eastbound on Ky. 2750 or traveling north on Ky. 39 had the right of way. According to the state Transportation Cabinet, the new three-way stop, which is scheduled to debut Wednesday, is intended to "enhance safety at this intersection and create a better traffic flow.

Tuesday afternoon Lincoln County emergency crews responded to a call at 1050 KY 618 W in Crab Orchard where a man had suffered injuries from a fork lift accident. The exact details of the accident are unclear, but emergency responders at the scene said that apparently Kenny Denny, 57, of Crab Orchard, had been working on a barn roof on Tony Todd's farm when he fell off and was crushed by the loader. Denny was transported to UK's Chandler Medical Center by helicopter with serious injuries to his back and both legs.

CRAB ORCHARD - The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is looking for anyone with information about a meth lab found Friday in a wooded area off of Old Fall Lick Road in Crab Orchard. Acting on a tip, Sheriff Curt Folger and Deputy Bill Hester found the lab about 2:30 p.m. in a blue suitcase, about 50 yards from the road along a four-wheeler trail. According to a press release, the suitcase contained meth-manufacturing supplies, including lye, tubing and camping fuel. CRAB ORCHARD - After seven years of dealing with contaminated land left behind by a scrap yard along Crab Orchard's main thoroughfare, the scenery across from city hall is looking a little greener. But the city's mayor isn't saying anything about it - at least not yet. The former salvage yard property, previously prohibited from use by the EPA, has been transformed into the beginnings of a park, with young plants growing in landscaped areas, a walking path and a basketball court.

CRAB ORCHARD - City Commission members discussed Friday the disappearance of a lawn mower, weed trimmer and leaf blower from a storage area in the sewer plant building. Crab Orchard Mayor Billy Shelton said the lawn equipment is valued at more than $1,000. How the equipment was removed from the locked facility is unclear, and Shelton and council members were reluctant to classify the disappearance as theft. "We don't know if they're stolen. They're gone," Shelton said. "We don't know how they got in there.

CRAB ORCHARD - A Lincoln County man was arrested Wednesday after he was caught in the middle of an alleged break-in on Lancaster Road near Crab Orchard. Frankie Simpson, 28, of 405 Ash St. in Crab Orchard was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools and lodged in the Lincoln County Regional Jail. According to Sheriff Curt Folger, Chris Cope was driving by his father's home at 1205 Lancaster Road and noticed the front door was standing open and a strange vehicle in the driveway.

CRAB ORCHARD - Three people were arrested in a Lincoln County meth bust Wednesday morning after a shoplifting investigation. About 7:30 a.m., Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger received a call about an individual shoplifting from a Crab Orchard convenience store. Folger said the caller told him the suspect went toward Stanford Street, which gave him “a pretty good idea” where the suspect was headed. Folger arrived at 336 Stanford St. and was met at the door by the home's renter, Jimmy D. Lamb, 36. Lamb told Folger the shoplifting suspect, Shon Berryman, 26, of Crab Orchard, was in the home.

LANCASTER - Authorities have identified a body found in a Garrard County field as 55-year-old Crab Orchard resident Floyd Smith. Smith's body was discovered Sunday by Stephen Crouch, who was clearing a field off of Crab Orchard Road with a tractor-powered mower, according to state police. Garrard County Coroner Daryl Hodge said Smith's body was resting in high weeds and Crouch accidentally ran over the body with the mower. Family members of Smith apparently filed a missing person report with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, but no one at the Sheriff's Office was available who knew when the report had been filed.
