Danville is back in good standing with the Kentucky Heritage Council and will not lose its Certified Local Government status. However, Architectural Review Board members and city officials said during Wednesday's ARB meeting that there is still important work ahead concerning the Historic Preservation ordinance. If someone violates the standards outlined for building in the historic district, he is guilty of a misdemeanor and must pay a fine of up to $500, according to the current ordinance.

Entrepreneurial leaders from around the state converged on Danville last week as part of the Kentucky Entrepreneurial Coaches Institute through the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture.  The group, which is comprised of people from 41 counties statewide, is focused in areas where tobacco once reigned supreme as a source of income. The Danville City Commission has exhibited some bold leadership over the past month. Commissioners boldly - and we think illegally - “reached a consensus,” (which is another way of saying “took a vote”) behind closed doors to authorize City Manager Ron Scott to buy the BISCO building, which houses the city garage. State law prohibits such secret decisions. Commissioners were boldly protecting the city's position as a bidder, so they say. That suggests the prospect of bidding against the city is an attractive one. We think it might actually scare other bidders away.

For those who get the urge, I must forewarn you not only the cost of gas to adventure, but the hidden cost it'll take to replace your tires after hitting all the potholes. I spent more time bouncing and dodging than I did observing. I can understand why the roads in Joplin are destroyed, but what's Danville's excuse? Frederick Turner Danville

Dear Editor, Several weekends ago, I had the pleasure of riding in the American Lung Association’s fundraiser that ran through the Danville area. I was most impressed by the new bike lanes the city has installed, and it made me and my fellow riders feel a lot safer. I also want to thank the people of Danville for their hospitality and understanding as we biked through some of the narrow roads in the area. While I can’t speak for all the riders, I do know that the group I rode with thoroughly enjoyed our time in Danville.
