Wades Mill Homemakers enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 1.¿Hostess was Ann Barker. The lesson, “Bread Baking Basics,” was given by Maryett Gyula. Those attending were Dolores Hess, Clara Kendig, Maryett Gyula, Cathy Gatson, Ann Barker, Bette McKenzie and two new members, Nancy Burchett and Joyce Gillman. The next meeting will be the Christmas celebration Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Hess house. Members will bring a wrapped Christmas ornament to exchange. Nancy Strosnider will give the lesson, “Take the Age Out of Your Dress.”

Lexington playwright Tosha McCann's latest work, “A Woman's Intuition,” also will double as a fundraiser for Broadway Christian Church. Wilmore missionaries Stacie and Sergio Silva are embarking on another adventure. Though the young couple has traveled the world, shared their love for God in Brazil and returned to Kentucky, they feel called to go back, this time with a new mission -  to strengthen families. “Before, we were more focused on just the children,” Stacie said. “But when we returned, we felt God calling us to minister to the family unit as a whole.” Their new calling also came with a blessing of their first child, KayleeAna, who at 2 is already learning Portuguese, English and even knows a little Norwegian.

Joe Robinson discovered the impact of an outreach ministry when he became a volunteer at the annual Wild Game Dinner at Grace Baptist Church more than three years ago. Robinson was back for a third time when more than 150 volunteers from the church helped feed more than 1,000 attendees during the eighth annual event Monday at the church. Despite a steady rain that hovered over the region, visitors flocked to the church to enjoy a menu that featured wild game selections from dove bites to burgoo and deer chili.

From Monday, Aug. 27, to Thursday, Aug. 28, the library will be presenting the 10th Annual Local History Week. Local History Week is the library's celebration in conjunction with Winchester's Pioneer Festival that always occurs the last weekend of August. Monday through Thursday before Pioneer Weekend, the library sponsors lectures or performances by some of Kentucky's best historians, scholars and reenactors. There's always a great meal beforehand. For the past few years luscious meals have been catered by Winchester's Thompson Catering Service.

July 26, 1987 Jane W. Hylton and Winona Asher have returned to their homes here following a 10-day stay in London, England, where Mrs. Hylton's daughter, Charla Jane, is doing an internship for Boston University. While in London, Miss Hylton is employed by Foote, Cone and Belding, an advertising and public relations firm. Mrs. Wavie Lee Welch entertained with a family dinner Saturday at her home in Clark County. More than 25 family members attended. The Winchester Connie Mack baseball team includes Tom Price, Doug “Pickle” Rose, Jon Clough, Brian Eury, Stuart Wells, Randy King, Bob Lane, Donnie Thomas, Charlie Pasley, Darrin Fallen, Scott Porter, Butch Fulks, Eric Krebs and coach Charlie Eury.

NEW YORK - Not many people get to even shake an astronaut's hand, but one Lincoln County boy recently got to meet three of the most famous ones during a visit to New York City. Trey Baldwin, 12, met and had dinner with Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell and Eugene Cernan May 18 at a special 35th-anniversary event hosted by the Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation at the Explorer's Club. Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 mission and was the first man on the moon, Cernan was the last man to step off the moon on the final moon landing and Lovell commanded the infamous, miraculous Apollo 13 mission.

Centre College honored faculty and staff last week at the annual faculty and staff appreciation dinner and awards ceremony. Debbie Livasy, custodial leader, and Mike Followell, grounds crew team member, received the Horky Service Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement by facilities services employees.
