Donations from throughout Clark County have made a Thanksgiving meal possible for 500 families.For the past 12 years, Ark of Mercy Church of God has hosted Harvest Sunday, a special Thanksgiving service and food box giveaway. “They get the spiritual food, and the Thanksgiving meal,”¿Janice Claypoole, Ark of Mercy senior minister, said. Volunteers from the church pass out coupons at local housing projects and to other families in need, which can be redeemed after morning or evening services the Sunday before Thanksgiving.Boxes include turkey, green beans, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls and cranberry sauce.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 2410 W. Lexington Ave., will host a free dinner for anyone in the community Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Transportation will be provided for downtown residents. The Calvary Christian Church bus will pick-up residents behind Phoenix House at 5:30 p.m. and in front of Brown Proctor at 5:45 p.m. Following dinner, there will be a service in the chapel. The church hosts Emmanuel's Table the last Tuesday of each month.

The Clark County University of Kentucky Alumni Club will host its fall dinner Tuesday at the Winchester Opera House, 10 E. Lexington Ave. There will be a reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the guest speaker at 7 p.m. Women's basketball coach Matthew Mitchell will be the speaker. Cost is $40 per person. Heidi Kathleen Privett and Dillon John Ross were united in marriage in the presence of family, friends, and the majestic High Sierra Nevada Mountains on June 11. The outdoor ceremony in Sequoia National Park, Calif., was followed by dinner and dancing dinner at Wuksachi Lodge. A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the parents of the groom at Montecito Sequoia Lodge. A reception for the newlyweds was also hosted by the bride's parents in Lexington on July 16. The bride is the daughter of Dr. George and Nawanna Privett of Lexington and Holly and Gregg Clendenin of Nicholasville.

The Clark County Chapter of the School Nutrition Association has formed a team for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for several years. There has always been a need with the club members to do more and to try to raise money is some way. Several members of the club are themselves cancer survivors, and several others have lost a loved one recently to the disease. When it came time to organize the team and to begin to raise money this year, the chapter members decided they could do what they know best, which is to cater a meal.

Students at Woodlawn Elementary School will be presenting its second annual dinner theatre "Through the Decades" at 7 p.m. Friday, May 20 at Boyle County High School. The dinner portion of the show is sold out and will begin at 5:30 p.m., but tickets for the show will be available at the door at a cost of $3 for children and $6 for adults.

The Blue Grass Council Boy Scout division will host a “Friends of Scouting” dinner with Nicholasville Mayor Russ Meyer on Thursday, April 14, in an attempt to gain recognition for the Boy Scout packs and troops in the area and spark more growth in the area. The dinner, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Nicholasville United Methodist Church Community Center, is free and open to everyone in the community, but it serves as a major fundraiser for the Boy Scout troops in Jessamine County.

Inspiration was a constant refrain of some big names in local and state party politics who converged Friday night at Centre College for the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. Jerry Abramson, Louisville’s former “mayor for life” and Gov. Steve Beshear’s running mate in his re-election bid, was the keynote speaker for the dinner held at Old Carnegie and organized by Centre College Democrats. The group used the event to kick off the Kentucky College Democrats convention being held this weekend.
