A Danville man who apparently shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself Sunday had a history of domestic violence assault charges and physical harassment convictions, court records show. A family member discovered the bodies of Thomas Rue Douglas, 49, and Sharon Lynn Daugherty Douglas, 49, on Sunday evening at their home and business at 458 S. Fourth St. Both died of gunshot wounds to their heads from a .38-caliber handgun, the result of a murder-suicide, authorities believe.

HARRODSBURG - Proceedings in Mercer Circuit Court were interrupted Tuesday morning as screams penetrated the closed doors of the second-floor courtroom and caused Judge Darren Peckler to pause on the bench. Bailiffs rushed from the courtroom and other courthouse personnel from their offices toward the shrieks, which had come from the first floor. They expected to find some sort of trouble, but instead discovered a smiling group of women huddled in the hallway. "We're really sorry," said one of the women, Allison Leonard, 32, an exotic dancer at a Lexington club.

STANFORD - Thefts and domestic violence are on the rise in Lincoln County, and Sheriff Curt Folger believes having enough deputies to provide around-the-clock patrol would go a long way toward curtailing those crimes. Folger wants to apply for a federal Community Oriented Police Services grant to hire three new deputies. Fiscal Court approved the request Tuesday but not before an extended discussion about paying for the deputies' salaries after the grant expires. "That would give us 24-hour protection, something we've never had in this county and something we need," Folger told magistrates.
