Aaron Wasson is living out his dream at the University of Kentucky. “I’ve always wanted to get into athletic administration,” said Wasson, a 1996 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School. “I’ve always been a huge University of Kentucky Wildcat fan. Every morning when I come to work, it doesn’t feel like work, because I enjoy it so much.” Wasson, also known as “Pooh,” was recently named director of equipment operations at the University of Kentucky and is mostly in charge of the school’s business association with Nike.

ANAHEIM -- It was a simple question that got a response University of Kentucky basketball fans had to like. Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie's first question here Wednesday at his NCAA pregame press conference dealt with whether his "dream job" had been all he thought it would be during his first year with the Wildcats. "It's been fantastic. Every job I've ever had was my dream job," Gillispie said. "And when I was coaching high school in Texas, that was my dream job at the time.

BRYANTS CAMP - It was February 2003 and Lexington was encased in ice from a storm that had cut off heat to most homes and brought the city to virtual halt. David and Sharla Wells recall the storm all too vividly. "Our home was without power, and the Lexington hotels and motels were fully booked with other Lexington residents looking for a warm place to stay," said David Wells. "We then thought of Cliffview (Retreat Center in Garrard County). We'd been here before for retreats and new they had guest rooms, so we called to see if they had room.

Long before he got the job, long before it even became apparent that he was next in line for the job, Brent Beauman wanted this job. Three seasons as an assistant coach with the Danville boys soccer program was more than enough time for Beauman to realize that he wanted to be the Admirals' head coach. Now that he has moved up to the top spot, he is more certain than ever that this is both the right job and the right place for him. Beauman succeeded longtime coach Gary Reynolds, and the team's preseason preparations began in earnest this week at the Centre College Soccer Camp.

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Jared Carter is not likely to be a huge factor today in Kentucky's game against Marquette today in the NCAA Tournament. The 7-foot sophomore center has played only 46 minutes in 12 games this year while he's spent 17 games entirely on the bench. Even though he's played in five of the last nine games, his playing time in those games was just a combined five minutes. However, Kentucky assistant coach Glynn Cyprien said Wednesday that Carter is improving. "Jared is getting better.

LEXINGTON - When it came down to it, John Calipari didn't want to make the mistake of passing up the opportunity to become coach at the University of Kentucky. Calipari loved Memphis. He still does. "This decision for me was extremely hard," he said. "It wasn't coming here. This was easy. It was leaving Memphis. " Despite his love for the birthplace of rock and roll, his idea of coaching a "storied" program was too intriguing to pass up. "Did I plan on doing this?

Finally, I had been offered my “dream job.” I am a huge fan of Berea College and the work they do primarily with young people from the nearby mountains. When they read my resume and we talked and they wanted to hire me for a special summer program, I said “yes” with no reservations. But actually there was a reservation. My daughter Phoebe was due to have twins in late summer and I chose to have the faith that I could do my Berea program and then go on to Denver to be with Phoebe.

Demrow was honored for his local, statewide and national volunteer service with both the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and Comair Flight 5191.

Mike Pratt didn't have to be convinced that John Calipari was the right hire for the University of Kentucky. "I was on board because I have some friends that know him well and some that work with him. I follow his career and have always been impressed," said Pratt. How impressed? "Two years ago there was an article in Sports Illustrated about his dribble-drive offense and I saved it for research," Pratt said. "I thought when I read it then how much players would like to play in that system and how attractive that has to be to kids.

Former Boyle County basketball standout Derek Springate "felt good" about his chances to become Boyle's new boys basketball coach after his interview last week. That's why he was a little surprised to learn only a few days later that the job he wanted instead went to former Tennessee Wesleyan coach Steve Adams. "After my first interview, I actually questioned some things I said or maybe what questions I should have asked," Springate said. "But after the second interview, I felt good.
