CORRECTION Matthew Ray was incorrectly listed in Tuesday's police arrests as having been charged with escape. He was cited to court for leaking or sifting the contents of his dump truck (or "escaping contents") and was listed on the arrest log as escaping. JOINT CITY, WMU MEETING The Winchester Board of Commissioners and Winchester Municipal Utilities Commission will hold a special meeting 6 p.m. Thursday at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College, 2020 Rolling Hills Lane, rooms 207 and 210, to discuss water supply issues.

Public Health Director Roger Trent met with the Boyle County Fiscal Court on Tuesday morning and requested a raise in the public health taxing district rate for next fiscal year. The rate for this fiscal year is 2.3 cents per $100 assessment for real property, personal property and motor vehicles. A raise to 2.5 cents was requested last fiscal year by the Boyle County Health Department but was rejected by then County Judge-Executive Tony Wilder and the fiscal court because there was money in reserve in the taxing district account.

Samuel Perkins, 2, pushed his dump truck along the rock walking path Monday morning at College Park. He was searching for the "perfect" rocks to gather in the truck. All that running and rock collecting made Samuel thirsty for a drink of lemonade. Clark residents received a much-needed break from the winter weather with temperatures topping out near 70 by Monday evening, creating a case of spring fever for many. Samuel is the son of John and Jodi Perkins of Tremont Lane.

Since I have been sick in bed for about a month, a lot of "Christmas stuff" - such as the buying, setting-up, wrapping and mailing - on top of taking care of me was left to Gene. To be honest, I was too sick to care much about how it all got done, so that is pretty much how what happened, happened. Getting down to the wire, I realized one of the only gifts left to buy was for our 10-year-old Latvian-adopted grandson, Zach. I figured if Gene had to choose for anybody, it would be for a living dynamo who values loud noise and anything that would drive a normal adult zany.

MIDDLEBURG - Janice Patterson, 51, of Middleburg, died Saturday from multiple injuries suffered in an Aug. 13 automobile accident in Casey County. She had been at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington since the crash on Ky. 70 in front of Ruthie's Diner. Patterson's 1988 Toyota collided with a dump truck driven by Sherman Hatter, 55, of Yosemite. The truck was hauling a bulldozer on a trailer, which jack-knifed. After Patterson's vehicle hit the dump truck, it ran into a Toyota pickup truck driven by Conrad Baldock, 55, of Yosemite.

STANFORD - A Kings Mountain man was injured Tuesday in a three-vehicle traffic crash on U.S. 27 three miles north of Stanford, police said. James E. Rose, 39, of Kings Mountain suffered neck injuries when his 2004 Dodge was struck by a piece of construction equipment that came loose from a truck, according to a report by Trooper Michael Ashley. The accident occurred as Danny R. Swartz, 35, of Eubank was driving north and came up on a Lincoln County Sheriff's Department vehicle stopped in traffic.

Any child who has ever received a special present from his grandmother will relate to "Donald's Dump Truck," a soft-cover children's book written by Betty Barger Pace, a former schoolteacher and guidance counselor, and currently director of federal programs in Kentucky and Ohio schools. The book, colorfully illustrated, tells the story of a birthday gift, a yellow dump truck, named Mighty Sam by its new owner. The book revolves around the competition of toys owned by two little boys.

The Jeep and a van collided, ripping out the rear wheels of the Jeep, leaving one wheel under the middle of the vehicle. A part from the rear wheel assembly of the Jeep ruptured the oil pan on the dump truck, at right. No further information was available at press time.

Traffic on northbound U.S. 27 near Lowe's was shut down for more than four hours Monday night as the result of a five-vehicle accident. The wreck occurred at 6:54 p.m. at the intersection of Ky. 169 and U.S. 27 when Jeffery J. Blackwell of Lexington, the driver of a semi-truck hauling garbage for Pecco Inc., attempted to avoid a collision when the traffic light turned red.
