LEXINGTON - George Rogers Clark served notice to Dunbar and others in the opening game of the semi-state 6 series here on Wednesday night at Tates Creek High School. Although the Bulldogs claimed a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series following a 2-0 shutout, Clark made contact on offense, got a complete game from its starting pitcher - Lance Rose - played a full seven innings and nearly staged a rally in the last frame. "We competed," Clark coach Larry Allison said afterward.

For a team that was winless in district play during the regular season, the Colts sure don't look like a six seed. The West Jessamine boys soccer team punched their ticket for the regional tournament and set themselves up for a rematch with Lexington Catholic for the district title when they defeated Dunbar at East Jessamine Middle School Wednesday night. The Colts had to get a late goal and play into overtime before winning, 3-2. "I'm so excited. We've never beat Dunbar," Senior Jacob Cox said.

LEXINGTON -- Dunbar running back Jerrell Greene has just one scholarship offer -- but he decided that was all he needed. The 6-1, 210-pound Green has given his verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky and joins in-state players Larry Warford of Madison Central and LaRod King of North Hardin in UK's 2009 recruiting class. "I thought about it and this is where I was born and I wanted my family to be able to see me play," said Greene, who went to UK Saturday to watch the Wildcats' spring practice and scrimmage.
