The Danville Fire Department will use the money for air pack replacements, upgrades and test equipment; and voice communications equipment. Fire Chief Mike Thomas said the department will put up a 10 percent match, or $4,658 for the equipment which will be purchased by July 1. If you go to a mass at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville - as hundreds of people will be doing this Sunday for Easter - the stars of the show, if you will, are the priest, the lay readers, the cantor, the ushers and other visible participants in the service. But two parishioners who won't appear on the sacred stage will have played a major part in helping to set it, nonetheless. Based on an organizational chart, Frieda Minor and Bennie Thompson are members of the church's arts and environment subcommittee, which is part of the worship committee.

There I was at 7:30 a.m., Easter Sunday morning, standing in the middle of an empty plot of land off Highway 27, a small gathering of parishioners from Cornerstone Baptist Church, lead by Pastor Jim Lyons watched the sun rise and celebrated the Son Rise. I was blessed and honored to be a part of this solemn, yet joyful, occasion. I have attended many sunrise services over the years and even participated in some of the more elaborate celebrations but none could compare to this. There were about 40 people present, making it a very intimate and even more reverent time.

We had a wonderful service Sunday. I apologize for not getting our news in every paper. I will try to be more prompt. The youth went to Louisville to compete in the Fine Arts competition. They did not win but came very close. Congratulations, you did a wonderful job! This week is Palm Sunday. There will be special services on Thursday and Friday of this week at 7 p.m. focusing on when our Lord was taken to Calvary, where He gave His life for all of us. Communion will be given on Thursday.
