Journal staff report and news@jessaminejournal.com | April 18, 2011
While the threat of bad weather put a damper on the turnout of Jessamine County’s sixth annual Easter-egg hunt, it did not seem to bother the more than 100 children who turned out to collect the colorful eggs Saturday morning. Many of the baskets the children brought were overflowing after event organizers hid 5,000 plastic eggs full of goodies. “Weather prevented a larger turnout,” Nicholasville Now Director Tonya Coleman said. “In year’s past, we’ve averaged around 400 to 500 participants.” The event also featured an appearance by the Easter Bunny, who posed for pictures with the children.

Soon it will be two days, 11 years, three months and 24 short periods of time since the Son of God arose from the dead. Because he lives, many people of many nations shall live again also. He has promised all of those who love him (just like the thief on the cross) that they will be resurrected from the grave to live with him in the kingdom of God forever, and forever. This promise lives in the hearts of Christians worldwide, and we pray, “Come quickly Lord Jesus.” Remember Easter Sunday and the risen savior on April 24. M. Wendell Anderson Danville

Easter is just around the corner, and it got me to thinking of Easters of my past. I have to admit Easter has a few memories that weren’t always good. One in particular I remember is some Easter eggs I colored to take to school. My mom had boiled and colored some of the eggs, but had to leave for work. She told us we were to finish coloring the eggs to take them to school to hide for Easter egg hunts. She left for work assuming we knew how to handle the job. We were to take turns decorating our own eggs.

If you go to a mass at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville - as hundreds of people will be doing this Sunday for Easter - the stars of the show, if you will, are the priest, the lay readers, the cantor, the ushers and other visible participants in the service. But two parishioners who won't appear on the sacred stage will have played a major part in helping to set it, nonetheless. Based on an organizational chart, Frieda Minor and Bennie Thompson are members of the church's arts and environment subcommittee, which is part of the worship committee.
