ELIZABETHTOWN - There was a time when it seemed inconceivable that Garrard County could be shut out. Yet that's exactly how its season ended. The potent offense on display in the first half of the season was nowhere to be found Friday night as Elizabethtown whitewashed the Golden Lions 36-0 in a Class AA, Region 2 second-round playoff game. Whether in good field position or bad, there was nothing Garrard could do to get into the end zone against an Elizabethtown defense that was waiting at every turn.

After almost three weeks following the robbery of the Farmers Bank in the Peddlers Mall Plaza, suspect Ricky Allen Pittman, 38, of Lancaster sits behind bars after being taken into custody Thursday morning in Elizabethtown. Along with the charges he faces in Nicholasville, Pittman was also wanted in the May 18 bank robbery of Whitaker Bank in Lancaster and the May 24 robbery of Fort Knox Federal Credit Union in Danville. Nicholasville police chief Barry Waldrop said Pittman would most likely be brought back to one of the areas in which a robbery occurred, but as of Friday morning he wasn't sure which area would lodge Pittman.

LANCASTER - If Garrard County beats 2003 Class AA runner-up Elizabethtown Friday, it might be considered the biggest upset in the second round of the playoffs. Yet at Garrard (9-2), it would not be considered an upset at all. "I know that my players believe they can win," Garrard coach Steve Stonebraker said. "They have no reason to be intimidated. We are as good as anybody we will play if we come out and play our game. "This is definitely a game I think, and our players think, we should win. Would it be an upset?

LANCASTER - If Garrard County had anyone that didn't believe it could still have a special season, coach Steve Stonebraker thinks last week's dramatic win dispelled those doubts. Garrard (9-2) let DeSales take the lead in the final minute and then won the game when quarterback Bruce Williams threw a touchdown pass to Jake Cool with 19 seconds left. The 19-15 victory gave the Golden Lions their first playoff win since 1999 and first season with nine or more wins since 1995. "Hopefully last week's win is something that will erase any doubt in our players' minds that they can still accomplish great things," said Stonebraker.
