MORELAND - Lincoln County officials remain optimistic a new $5.5 million sewer system along the U.S. 127 corridor is a possibility in the near future, even though the flow of funding for infrastructure upgrades has slowed to a trickle. Officials involved in attempts to secure funding and bring sewer to the currently sewer-less west side of the county delivered a hopeful briefing Monday evening at New Hope Baptist Church in the Moreland area. Dozens were on-hand at the public hearing to examine maps of the proposed sewer system and ask questions.

Editor's Note: This is the final installment of a series of stories with Kentucky tight ends coach Vince Marrow, who has been instrumental in UK's recruiting success in Ohio since joining Mark Stoops' staff. LEXINGTON - If there's one thing Vince Marrow wants to make sure that Kentucky fans know about him it is this: He's not an inexperienced coach. “My agent was reading something about Vince Marrow just being some GA (graduate assistant) from Nebraska with no experience,” Kentucky's new tight ends coach said.

Editor's Note: This is the fourth in a series of stories with Kentucky tight ends coach Vince Marrow, who has been instrumental in UK's recruiting success in Ohio since joining Mark Stoops' staff. LEXINGTON - It's not hard for Vince Marrow to explain the recruiting success he's had in Ohio since joining Kentucky coach Mark Stoops' staff less than six months ago. “I think, honestly, it's just where I am from, Youngstown. It's a blue-collar place, a football family place,” the Kentucky tight ends coach said.

A new criminal-justice program has blossomed in its first year at Jessamine Career and Technology Center and will be bigger next year. The public-safety career pathway includes criminal-justice classes and fire-science classes. First-year teacher Will Hall taught a criminal-justice overview this year and will add classes in trial focus and criminal procedure next year - classes he said are already full. “One of them is a trial-focus class, and that's for anyone interested in the courtroom side of things,” Hall said.

Too much, too early put West baseball in an insurmountable deficit in Tuesday's 12th Region semifinals loss. The Colts (24-11) were outgunned by the heavy-hitting Southwestern Warriors, 7-3. "I thought we were a little tight coming out, and it showed," West head coach Jody Hamilton said. "We ended up making a few errors that cost us a run. " West senior pitcher Matt Yeich, who got the starting nod, gave up three runs in the opening inning that was started on a double by Southwestern sophomore Jacob Burchett.

Well, that's all folks. The last day of classes in Jessamine County is on Friday, bringing to a close the 2012-2013 school year. Over the past two weeks, I've witnessed my Facebook feed fill with photos and memories of a year (or years) passed as children graduate from preschools, elementary schools, junior highs, high schools and colleges. In our family, the end of the school year marked the end of our son's preschool career. Next year, he'll join hundreds of other kindergarteners at the Early Learning Village.

LEXINGTON - Kentucky fans might not have known much about Vince Marrow when he joined Mark Stoops' coaching staff at UK, but the tight ends coach has quickly made a name for himself as a successful recruiter, especially in Ohio where six of UK's verbal commitments in the 2014 recruiting class are from.

A dramatic late-season turnaround for the West Jessamine Lady Colts came to an emotional end Monday. The Lady Colts earned 10 of their 13 victories since April 22; slightly past the season's midpoint. The club's 8-4 Memorial Day loss came at the hands of Rockcastle County, who they ran by just into their midseason tear. "I thought that obviously coming in, we had a better chance than that (to win)," West head coach Michelle Baker said. "We made several mistakes defensively that wound up costing us; mistakes that we've not been making here in the recent few weeks.
