East Jessamine softball's eight-game win streak came to an end Monday night Lexington Catholic. The Lady Jaguars lost to the Lady Knights 8-3. East was in the game through the first four innings despite being down 3-0, but things got out of hand quickly in the fifth as the three-run lead ballooned to an 8-0 blowout. “Haylee (Hamm) had a rough night; it was her worst night as a varsity starter,” East Jessamine coach Tom Hamm said. “She just had an off night.” The Lady Jags didn't get on the board untill the top of the sixth inning.

The Colts got beat on one shot Tuesday night, and that one shot ended their 17-win season. Lexington Christian’s lone goal came in the first 15 minutes of the game, and West battled the rest of the night to just get one in the net, to no avail. “Talk about a class act–these girls (West Jessamine) are a class act,” West coach Kevin Wright said. “They worked their tails off and dominated that game. One shot beat us. “We’re holding our heads high.

STANFORD - In a year that saw many governments struggle through lean times, Lincoln County Fiscal Court ended the 2010-11 fiscal year healthier than expected. “We actually ended the year in the black,” said Treasurer Teresa Padgett. Magistrates at Thursday's called Fiscal Court meeting learned that the county finished the year with nearly $1.5 million in carry-over funds. But all of that surplus money was channeled right back in to the county's $8.2-million budget for the fiscal year that begins Aug. 1, including a $240,000 line item for use in emergencies.

East Jessamine's girls' soccer season came to an end Thursday night in a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Lincoln County in the region semifinal. The Lady Jags led for more than 50 minutes of the match after senior Devon Burnside gave them a 1-0 lead five and a half minutes into the game. Burnside got free and beat the keeper one-on-one in the box. East had its chances to extend the lead on several occasions but could not get another goal, either pushing the ball too far or too high. Lincoln's first real chance to tie the game came with 9:20 remaining in the first half when a shot glanced off the left post.

The East Jessamine Jaguars knew they were going to get a tight game. But they didn't expect Southwestern to score on a balk. But the Warriors did in the sixth inning and held on past an East rally in the seventh to win 1-0, and advance in the 12th Region tournament at West Jessamine Monday afternoon. "We told them in the beginning that it would probably be a 1-0 game," East Coach Tasha Bowlin said. "We didn't think they'd get the run the way they got it. That stuff happens it's part of the game.

MORELAND - Lincoln County officials remain optimistic a new $5.5 million sewer system along the U.S. 127 corridor is a possibility in the near future, even though the flow of funding for infrastructure upgrades has slowed to a trickle. Officials involved in attempts to secure funding and bring sewer to the currently sewer-less west side of the county delivered a hopeful briefing Monday evening at New Hope Baptist Church in the Moreland area. Dozens were on-hand at the public hearing to examine maps of the proposed sewer system and ask questions.

Too much, too early put West baseball in an insurmountable deficit in Tuesday's 12th Region semifinals loss. The Colts (24-11) were outgunned by the heavy-hitting Southwestern Warriors, 7-3. "I thought we were a little tight coming out, and it showed," West head coach Jody Hamilton said. "We ended up making a few errors that cost us a run. " West senior pitcher Matt Yeich, who got the starting nod, gave up three runs in the opening inning that was started on a double by Southwestern sophomore Jacob Burchett.

Well, that's all folks. The last day of classes in Jessamine County is on Friday, bringing to a close the 2012-2013 school year. Over the past two weeks, I've witnessed my Facebook feed fill with photos and memories of a year (or years) passed as children graduate from preschools, elementary schools, junior highs, high schools and colleges. In our family, the end of the school year marked the end of our son's preschool career. Next year, he'll join hundreds of other kindergarteners at the Early Learning Village.

The club's 8-4 Memorial Day loss came at the hands of Rockcastle County, who they ran by just into their midseason tear. "I thought that obviously coming in, we had a better chance than that (to win)," West head coach Michelle Baker said. "We made several mistakes defensively that wound up costing us; mistakes that we've not been making here in the recent few weeks.
