Kim Elliott has been named a Loan Officer with the Danville office of Central Kentucky Ag Credit. She is continuing a 22-year career with the cooperative. Elliott started her career at the Stanford Ag Credit office, where she worked for two years. Since then she has worked at the Danville Ag Credit office, most recently serving as a loan specialist. She has a rich background in rural loan activity, and has worked extensively with Ag Credit member-borrowers in Boyle, Mercer, and surrounding counties.

Jan Burroughs hopes the tragedy she and her daughters endured when they lost the family farm will help other families avoid the pitfalls of improper estate planning. In 1994, Burroughs' husband, Alan, died in a grain bin accident on their 1,000-acre farm in Iuka, Ill. "My husband had a will, but he didn't have an estate plan. Estate plans were fairly new then, and we weren't aware that we needed one. Because the farming operation was big enough, the estate went to probate court.

LOUISVILLE ? Pulaski County farmer Mark Haney was re-elected president of Kentucky Farm Bureau on the concluding day of the organization's 90th annual meeting. Clark County's John C. Hendricks and Webster County's Eddie Melton were re-elected as first and second vice president, respectively. They comprise KFB's Executive Committee along with Executive Vice President David S. Beck. Hendricks, a KFB director since 1998, is a past president of Clark County Farm Bureau. He is chairman of Resolutions Committee and the Health Care Issues Task Force.

ALBIN AT LIBRARY Storyteller and folk musician Dick "Richard Albin will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Clark County Public Library. The concert will be followed by a reception. Albin was reared in the hills of Arkansas and lived several years in eastern Kentucky. He also writes stories and songs, one of which, "Jesse's Witch Night," has been heard on National Public Radio. The program is free and is for the whole family. Open to the public, seating is limited and registration is required by calling 744-5661.

Raymond “Ray” Gregory Webb, 58, of Nicholasville died unexpectedly in his home on Thursday, Dec. 8. He was born March 31, 1953, in Floyd County. He was the son of the late Thomas Jackson Webb and of the late Elsie Mae Simpson Webb. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Francis Rogers Webb; their son, Seth Thomas Webb, age 11; her son, Matthew Bowman Brewer; and his son, Ryan Gregory Webb. His son, Robyn Lee Webb, and a sister, Linda Webb, preceded him in death.

Todd Kleffman is on his second go-round at The Advocate, having first worked at the newspaper from 1984-88 and returning in 2004. He currently covers the courts and Lincoln and Casey counties, and serves as editor for the Sunday paper, so he's always around on Saturday. Kleffman left the Chicago area just in time to attend Casey County High School. He worked at a long-gone record store in Danville called the Haberhashery while attending college and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a journalism degree.

LIBERTY - The number 13 might be unlucky for some people but not for the new Casey County extension agricultural agent. Owen County native Steven Heightchew considers himself lucky after he was hired Aug. 13 and will assume his duties Sept. 13. He and his fiance, Elizabeth Hardesty, who grew up in Brandenburg, were honored with a reception Tuesday night by the Casey County Cooperative Extension Service. Heightchew, a December 2003 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a major in agriculture economics and a minor in plant and soil science, plans to move to Casey County as soon as he finds a place to live.

LANCASTER - The runner-up for Garrard County jailer in the 2006 election takes over the position today. Kevin Middleton, 45, of Lancaster was appointed to the position by Judge-Executive John Wilson from a pool of about 30 applicants from in and outside the county, even though only county residents were eligible. Wilson made the appointment after consulting with the Fiscal Court and Sheriff Ronnie Wardrip. Although Garrard County doesn't have a jail, it does have a jailer.

Boyle County native Steve Moore has been named Extension Agent of the Year by the Governor's office for Agriculture Policy. Moore has been agriculture agent in Henry County for 24 years. "He has that kind of attitude that you really want to reward, trying to buy into what you're trying to do and always has the best interests of the farmers at heart," said Stephen Yates, a project analyst in Governor's Office of Agricultural Policy. "He's a tremendous asset for agriculture in Henry County and for Kentucky.
