From tractors to steam engine displays, the second annual Antique Farm Equipment Association Show had much to offer to those who attended the event last weekend. "I just got started fooling around with old tractors simply because I still have the first tractor that I ever bought, which is a 1948 C Farmall," Burgin's Carrol Montgomery said. "I still use it, and I've got it up here this weekend. "I just like to see the old tractors. I also like seeing the unusual ones," he added.

A Rolling Hills neighbors' dispute about construction material and weeds turned into a shouting match Monday after a Danville City Commission meeting. Danville Police Department responded to a call about 9 p.m. at 119 Rolling Hills concerning an assault by an intoxicated man. Neighbors say the man who they complained about hours earlier in city hall, Adam Farmer, confronted Bill Steward at his house. Farmer said he was not intoxicated and that he just went to Steward's house to ask about the commissioners' meeting.

The Winchester-Clark County Planning Commission approved both a zone change and conditional use request for the sale of farm equipment on Winn Avenue. Shane Wiseman has been operating a business selling used farm equipment on half an acre owned by Ralph Day at 290 Winn Ave. Director of Planning and Development Rhonda Cromer said the business was brought to the attention of the Planning Commission after neighbors complained about “general unsightliness” at the property. Cromer recommended approval of a zone change request for the property, originally zoned for single-family residential, to highway business, because the lot was adjacent to properties zoned for business and light industrial use, and because it is located at major intersection, between Ecton Road, Ironworks Road and Winn Avenue.

Editor's note: Since this is the last business page of the year, we thought we would take a look at some of the businesses that announced their opening or relocation in Danville on this page during the past year. Of the many businesses that started up or moved to Danville in 2003, Mark and Heather Nolan can take credit for two of them. This summer they completed the 15,000-square-foot building on the Danville bypass that would serve as the new home for USA Signs. This fall, in partnership with Heather's parents, Tom and Sue Ross, they opened a farm equipment dealership, Homeland Equipment, in part of the new building.

When Mike and Stefanie Cocanougher built their house, the view was full of green pastures and hillsides. Now it is obstructed with rusting farm equipment and cars on the farm next door. They say it is junk. Robert Hamlin, who owns that property, says it is a collection of miscellaneous construction, road and farm equipment, including antique tractors. Danville-Boyle County Planning and Zoning sent Hamlin a letter telling him to remove the more than 50 vehicles from his property on Stewarts Lane on Dec. 17, 2004.
