Eleven people have been indicted by the FBI after drug raids in Clark, Madison and Fayette counties earlier this month. According to the indictment, Rondale Lamont McCann has been charged with two counts of distributing crack cocaine in Clark County in 2012, and Jennifer Leanna Rawlings has been charged with one count of distributing crack cocaine in Clark County, also in 2012. Bruce Harrison was charged with selling oxycodone in Clark County in February. McCann and Rawlings also were charged with distributing crack cocaine in Madison County, along with Dawn Cloud, Marcus T. Williams, Jason Leon Bledsoe, Bassam M. Alfroukh, Susan Ladosha Strickland, Kelly Marquet Stewart, Zerockia Z. Keene, Dustin Harrison and Bruce Harrison, beginning July 2012.

Motorists are asked to avoid U.S. 60 after a fatal crash Thursday morning. The accident happened on Winchester Road near Bahama Road, and traffic is being stopped at Man O' War. No traffic is allowed into or out of Clark County via 60 until later this afernoon.

After a 30-year career in Jessamine County schools, superintendent Lu Young is leaving her home district to assume a new position in Fayette County. Young will become chief academic officer in Lexington on July 1. The announcement was made at a Fayette County leadership meeting Wednesday morning; she will present a formal resignation to the Jessamine County Board of Education at its April 22 meeting. Young, 53, called the new position “the right challenge” for her career and said the decision had been emotional, professional and spiritual.

A former circulation manager of the Winchester Sun was indicted Thursday for allegedly taking more than $19,000 from the business during her employment. Michelle Holloman, 38, of Winchester, was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 and second-degree persistent felony offender, which stems from a similar case in Fayette County in 2010. Holloman was terminated from the Sun in May 2012 after an internal audit discovered that more than $24,000 was missing from company funds.

FRANKFORT - The Kentucky Arts Council, by invitation of the Senate leadership, has coordinated a visual arts exhibition of two-dimensional work on display throughout the Senate offices in the Capitol Annex. Artists invited to participate have previously been accepted into the Kentucky Arts Council's Kentucky Crafted program or have been the recipients of an Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship Award or Governor's Award in the Arts. "Kentucky Visions at the Capitol" showcases 58 pieces of artwork by 34 artists from 18 Kentucky counties.

A Lexington man will serve 180 days after he entered a plea to attempted arson and attempted receiving stolen property Wednesday afternoon. Clifford Beasley Jr., 37, entered an Alford plea to both charges after he allegedly set fire to a stolen car in February. His co-defendant, Charles Speake, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 29 for third-degree arson and receiving stolen property charges as well. In an Alford plea, the defendant does not admit guilt but believes there is enough evidence to convict him. According to court documents, the two were charged for possessing a stolen car from Fayette County and setting it on fire in Clark County on Feb. 5. An off-duty Lexington Police officer saw two cars parked on the side of a road with an “odd light” coming from the back seat of one vehicle.

Deborah "Debbie" Durbin, 53, of Lois Lane, died Friday, July 31, at UK Hospital. A native of Fayette County, she is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert Durbin, a daughter, Misty and husband David Goode, of Lexington, a sister Teresa Metcalf, and three brothers Steve, Ronnie and David Waller.

The Fayette County Board of Education selected Daviess County Superintendent Tom Shelton as its next superintendent Friday after more than nine hours of deliberation. Clark County Superintendent Elaine Farris was one of the other two finalists for the position, along with Jessamine County Superintendent Lu Young. Fayette board chairman John Price said all three candidates had excellent qualifications and the lengthy deliberations reflected the difficulty the board had in choosing between the three candidates.

Kincaid of 111 Spicer Drive was taken to Clark Regional Medical Center with injuries after he lost control of his vehicle on the eastern Bypass at 4:19 p.m. Friday. The vehicle ran off the right side of the road, went over an embankment and struck a ditch, causing severe damage. WINCHESTER POLICE CRIMES REPORTED â?¢ An employee of Summerall Tire, 1101 Enterprise Drive, reported at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday that someone took wheels from the business over the weekend.

Edna Mae Patterson, 84, widow of Homer Patterson, went to be with the lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Mrs. Patterson was born in Fayette County on Sept. 1, 1928, to the late George Robert Biddle and Jennie Clemons Biddle. Mrs. Patterson was a loving mother, homemaker, farmer and was known for her quilts. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club in Clark and Bourbon counties and a member of Clintonville Christian Church. Survivors include two sons, Harold Patterson and Homer Patterson, both of Clark County; one daughter, Wanda Davis of Fayette County; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geneva Ginter, Dorothy Burns and Cora Witt; two brothers, Lee Biddle and David Biddle; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

One-third of the screening committee for a new superintendent in Jessamine County is in place. School-board chair Eugene Peel announced at Monday's regular meeting that he would appoint vice chair Amy Day as the board's representative on the committee, and current superintendent Lu Young said the district's principals had selected Rosenwald-Dunbar Elementary School principal Beth Carpenter to represent them on the committee. The screening committee will face the task of narrowing the applications down to five or more applicants to recommend to the board of education.

Sue W. Mahoney, 76, of Fayette County, wife of James M. Mahoney, passed away Sunday, April 28, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Martha Ann Frank; a son, Thomas M. Mahoney, four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Memorial services will be at the Twin Pines Christian Church, 1139 Tanbark Rd., Lexington on Thursday at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday. The Kentucky Nonprofit Network has given Kentuckians an opportunity to support local nonprofits today as part of the statewide Kentucky Gives Day. And there's still time to donate and plenty of local charities for Clark Countians. The Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program, Clark County Homeless Coalition, Partners in Education of Clark County and the Winchester Retirement Place (Rose Mary C. Brooks Place) have taken part in the “24 Hours of Giving,” which started after midnight and continues through tonight.

Roger Stevenson Brumagen Jr., 49, of Brown Street died Friday, April 12, at his home. He was a native of Fayette County, born Nov. 5, 1963, to the late Roger Stevenson Sr. and Alice Mae Brumagen. He loved the outdoors, working as a farmer, with Lexington Paddock, Inc. in fencing, and playing golf. He is survived by his daughters, Trista and Willa Brumagen; sister Tammy S. Tursisos; uncles William Ray and Paul Wayne Benton; and nephew Joshua Brumagen. A service of remembrance will be Thursday at 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home.

Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Special Prosecutions announced the sentencing in Jessamine Circuit Court of two Nicholasville residents in connection with a string of home invasions between July and September 2012. Twenty-eight-year-old Erick Reynolds received a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty Feb. 8 to nine counts of second-degree burglary and one count of theft by unlawful taking. Reynolds also pleaded guilty to being a persistent felony offender and admitted he broke into eight different homes, one of them twice, as well as a vehicle.
