Air Force Air Force Airman Jacob E. Duff has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, Duff studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. In addition, Duff earned credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Navy Danville native Commander Jason Hammond recently deployed aboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). Hammond is the ship's operations officer. The operations department manages the combat direction center and is responsible for all operational planning, local air traffic control, and defense of the aircraft carrier at sea. The Carl Vinson is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier with more than 5,000 crew members on board. The Vinson recently was host to the UNC-Mighigan State basketball game and is the ship from which Osama Bin Laden was buried at sea. Most recently, Hammond was the commanding officer of fleet logistics support squadron three zero, Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, Calif.
