In the passing of A. Jack May, not only did we lose a great lawyer but also an outstanding artist. I came to know him shortly after I came to Danville back in the 1960s, and I was always impressed by his friendly way and remember how he dressed with that "special" hat he always wore. That was his trademark. When the Perryville Community Center was finished he presented to the community center several pencil sketches of historical homes and churches in Perryville. When we would have the commemoration weekend, he would set up shop in the center and have many paintings for sale and would always encourage the children to come.
