While Mark Stoops isn't content with just having Kentucky positioned well with 2014 recruits. The Kentucky coach also wants the nation's best 2015 recruits to know he's paying attention. Kentucky has offered cornerback Von Davis, a sophomore from Mount Dora, Fla., a scholarship. It was the first offer for the 6-0, 175-pound Davis but won't be his last, as Florida, Florida State, Louisville and South Carolina are just some of the schools also interested in Davis. “It was a huge surprise to get the Kentucky offer,” Davis said.

Trailing 3-1, Danville (10-5, 2-1 45th District) took the lead with its big fourth inning, which included a two-run double by Will Graham.

Two days into their Fort Walton Beach, Fla., tournament the East Jessamine Jaguars baseball team sits at 1-1. With a box score removed from view, that notion would leave some scratching their heads. Yet, with offense being a premium, the Jaguars held tight to their pitching ways. Monday, against Fort Walton Beach, the Jaguars fell 1-0 in the 14th inning. Starting junior pitcher John Hisle threw a no-hitter through seven innings of action but was pulled after play continued beyond regulation times.

LEXINGTON - Fighting like a drowning man in desperation, Kentucky returned safely to shore and kept is NCAA tournament hopes alive with a 61-57 triumph over Florida on Saturday at Rupp Arena. The Wildcats, who suffered back-to-back losses at Arkansas and Georgia during the previous seven days, fended off the Gators with an old-fashioned defensive approach that kept the Southeastern Conference regular-season champions scoreless in the last 7 minutes, 35 seconds and gave the Wildcats a runner-up finish in the conference and a double-bye for next week's league tournament in Nashville, Tenn.

LEXINGTON - Archie Goodwin knows what it means to Kentucky when teammate Alex Poythress plays well. “We knew we needed Alex to play well to win,” Goodwin said. “If Alex does not play good, most of the time we don't win. When he plays to his potential, we can win.” Maybe Poythress still didn't play to his full potential, but his career-high 12 rebounds, nine points and two assists in 32 minutes Saturday helped Kentucky¿beat No. 11 Florida 61-57 at Rupp Arena. That's much better than in the Wildcats' loss at Florida, when the freshman forward was 1 for 9 from the field and had five points and four rebounds in a 69-52 loss about a month ago. “I heard he spoke to the media yesterday and basically said, 'I haven't played hard enough all year.

He's not scoring in double figures, but junior point guard Scottie Wilbekin could be Florida's most important player because of his defense and on-ball pressure that disrupts opposing teams' offenses. “He is the best in the league. I told (Florida coach) Billy (Donovan) when he was a freshman I¿thought he was a terrific player,” said Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings. “He just is tenacious. He is tough. It's every game, every possession. He does a great job on the ball. It looks to me like he just sells out to do what his team needs him to do and he is great at it.” Donovan says the Gators had a small point guard, Earvin Walker, the past three years who was a terrific outside shooter but didn't have the size to rebound or defend like Wilbekin, who had eight points and four assists in Wednesday's 66-40 win over Vanderbilt that clinched the SEC title for the Gators.

LEXINGTON - Kentucky coach John Calipari believes his team is “improving in all areas.” He just worries that tonight it might not all show at No. 7 Florida. “This a worthy opponent, well-coached team, a tough team, a physical team. I'm watching them, they bang and bump and grind,” Calipari said Monday. “Their guards really attack. I mean, if you're in a cool mode, you're getting killed in this game. You've got to be trying to survive every bounce of the ball, every trip up and down.
