As news spread Thursday that Food Lion plans to soon shutter all of its Kentucky locations, some shoppers at the Danville store voiced their displeasure. “Yeah, I'm pretty upset that it's closing,”  Jennifer Warner of Perryville said as she wheeled a cart full of groceries to her car. “They're friendly here. It's not like where you walk in and nobody acknowledges you. And the smaller size. I don't like to walk 20 miles from one item to the next.” “Plus, I like the Food Lion brand stuff.” Delhaize America, a North Carolina-based grocery chain, announced Wednesday on its website it is closing 113 stores across several states, including all seven of its Food Lion locations in Kentucky, within 30 days.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Detective Don Gilliam says he goes about solving crimes a little differently than most investigators: He starts at the center and works backward. "I get a lot of flak for my approach from the other officers, but it works for me," Gilliam said. "Most crimes are by someone the victim knows. " A former Kentucky State Police detective who left retirement to work for Curt Folger when Folger was elected sheriff two years ago, Gilliam said his investigative approach had led him to shelve one lead in the Oct. 8 strong-arm robbery at Food Lion in favor of another he said is "closer to home.

Out-the-door lines Monday and Tuesday meant all of the bread and milk was gone at Danville’s newest food bank at 410 Fryes Lane, but the arrival of a 2-ton shipment of potatoes and another ton of cabbages provided other items for filling grocery carts Wednesday. Cabbage and cornbread were on the menu for Frances Adams after she filled her cart. The 75-year-old Danville woman had never been to a food pantry but learned about the new one while at the nearby Salvation Army to collect day-old bread.
