LIBERTY - The state Transportation Cabinet has approved resurfacing for four Casey County roads. Fiscal Court accepted the recommendations Monday from Bruce Neeley of the cabinet's 8th District office. The roads to be resurfaced are: Ky. 1742 from Adair County north west to Ky. 70; Ky. 243 from Ky. 78 to the Casey-Boyle County line; Ky. 2314 (Hustonville Street) from Ky. 49 to U.S. 127; and Ky. 501 from Ky. 910 to Clear Branch Road. The court also appointed Jerry Hebrock to Gateway Park board.

Open house set at McClure-Barbee House McClure-Barbee House Foundation will have an open house from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday in appreciation of the community's support of the McClure-Barbee House, 304 S. LIBERTY - The blood and bone marrow drive Monday for 3-year-old Haylee Milroy was a huge success. People donated 83 pints of blood and 52 were tested for bone marrow matches during the drawing at Gateway park. Central Kentucky Blood Center in Lexington and Poplar Springs Volunteer Fire Department sponsored the drive. "We did exceptionally well considering there was a blood drive in Casey County last month," said Haylee's mother Candice Milroy. "We were really pleased. " Milroy said Haylee was at the drawing for a while, but got tired and had to go home.

LIBERTY - Casey Fiscal Court agreed to set the tax rate at 6.9 cents per $100 property valuation for 2006-2007. The new tax rate will not require a hearing. The county expects to collect $324,544 with the new rate that includes water craft and motor vehicle tax. The rate will be reflected on the November tax bills. In other money matters, the court: Learned the county has received $99,000 to clean up more roadside dumps. Judge-Executive Wright said the money from Eastern Kentucky Pride program will not require a match.

LIBERTY - The following people were indicted recently by a Casey County grand jury: * James C. Lopez, 42, of Somerset, theft, burglary, criminal mischief and being a persistent felony offender for allegedly breaking down the door to Shane and Shelley Rousey's home on Feb. 1 and taking numerous personal items valued at more than $500. Bond was set at $2,500. Deputy Chad Weddle testified before the grand jury. * Brian R. Mondie, 23, 64 Jackie Drive, alleged possession of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and being a persistent felony offender on Jan. 22. No bond was set. Weddle testified.

Henderson-Cornish Lynette Denise Henderson and Christopher Dewayne Cornish were married Feb. 18 at Pioneer Baptist Church by Michael West and David Cornish. Deidra Williams of Harrodsburg served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Paula Campbell of Danville, Dala Cornish of Lawrenceburg, sister of the groom, and Donna Scott of Mackville. Jennifer Merchant of Harrodsburg was flowergirl. Steve Kelley of Stanford was best man. Groomsmen were Larry Henderson and Terry Lewis, both of Harrodsburg, and William Madden of Lancaster.

LIBERTY - Linda K. Spears has resigned her executive director position at the Liberty/Casey County Chamber of Commerce office, effective Nov. 3. She is leaving for personal as well as professional reasons. Spears, who has been in the office since April 2005, said she will pursue other interests including devoting more time to her spiritual life and as a gospel singer. "I have accomplished everything I set out to do here, but there is a lot more I could do. I hope the chamber gets someone in this office to continue to work for the community," she said Friday.

LIBERTY - Liberty City Council reviewed a budget Wednesday that shows anticipated Gateway Park expenditures for 2005. The city has been asked to help financially with operations at the park, which is owned by Casey Fiscal Court. The council took no action but agreed to study the budget and see what it can do to help. Mayor Steve Sweeney and the council agreed to make a decision at the next meeting. Tyrone Smith, who oversees the park, said the park will operate under a $35,730 budget this year.
