As the general election rapidly approaches, some Boyle County voters are still confused about where they should cast their ballots on Nov. 8. County Clerk Trille Bottom said the six precincts located for years at Centenary United Methodist Church's Christian Life Center on Perryville Road had to be relocated for this election and all elections next year because of construction on a new church building. Those precincts - Bluegrass, Lexington Avenue, Streamland, Boyle County High School, Millennium Park and Shakertown Road - now will vote at the new Boyle County Fire Department headquarters at 1500 Lebanon Road.

Kentuckians who want to vote in the upcoming May 22 primary must register by April 23. County clerks' offices will accept voter registration cards until the close of business that day. A postmark of April 23 also is required for all mail-in voter registration applications. Registration cards can be obtained on the Internet at www.sos.ky.gov/register. Minors who are 17 years old but will be 18 on or before the Nov. 6 general election are eligible to register and entitled to vote in the upcoming primary and runoff elections but are not eligible to vote in special elections unless they are 18. If citizens are unsure whether they have registered to vote or uncertain as to where they will vote, they can view all of that information online through the Voter Information Center.

"I'm very humbled, but it's only half-time," said Jamey Gay. Of the nine candidates running for commission, Gay came out on top with 2,060 votes and attributed it to his prior eight years on the commission. Tuesday's non-partisan election narrowed the field of candidates to eight, who will face off in the November general election.

Mercer Circuit Judge Darren Peckler upheld the election contested in a civil suit against the Mercer County Board of Elections and other officials. Asked if the plaintiffs will appeal, Mark Gray, one of the plaintiffs, said today, "It will be a day or two before we meet on that.

Having served as deputy county clerk for 20 and one-half years, I know the qualities a person needs to be a good county clerk. The clerk's office has multiple and varied responsibilities and I know Chris would dedicate himself to learning all the duties of county clerk.
