I knew we were in trouble the minute we turned at Auto Banc. Cars were uncharacteristically parked along the normally deserted road, and we had to dodge pedestrians crossing at every angle. Unbelievably, a long line of people stood outside, braving near-freezing temperatures and a brisk wind more like January than November last Monday night. Some marketing genius concocted the idea of free meals that night for veterans. This is a very smart cookie. The veterans' meals were free, but I'm sure each of them brought along several paying guests.

Did you know that long john thermal underwear shrinks at least three sizes in the dryer? Now, it wouldn't matter, at least to me, if they shrunk wide-wise since I am very unwide anyway. But the long johns shrink long-wise ? you know, from your waist to your ankles. This has caused me major stress, something I do not need right now. You gotta' stay with me here. I actually live in long johns from Oct. 1 through March 31. I admit that on an occasional warm day I sweat, but that is better than being cold when the sun goes down.

Board of Health to meet Thursday The Clark County Board of Health will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Health Department. On the agenda is the second reading of a county-wide smoke-free regulation. Correction An announcement that ran on Saturday's faith page misspelled the name of the Rev. Joseph Okello of Duncan Chapel United Methodist Church of Jim Town. Okello will be present for Clark United Methodist's 138th anniversary celebration this Sunday. Clark County Kiwanis to meet Tuesday night The Clark County Kiwanis Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Vittorino's Italian Restaurant, 34 N. Main St. Retired lunchroom managers The retired school lunchroom managers group will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. at Golden Corral.
