Golf tourney scheduled for May 6 in Danville The Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 6 at the Danville Country Club. The tournament will follow a four-person team, 18-hole scramble format. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. with a welcome, announcements at 12:15 p.m., and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. All participants will enjoy lunch, golf and dinner. Each team member will receive a gift that is based on their team's sponsorship level.

Alocal golf course/development's approach, which officials called “unorthodox,” to developing Keene Manor Subdivision prompted much discussion at a meeting of the Jessamine County/City of Wilmore Joint Planning and Zoning Commission last Tuesday. Corman McQueen Golf, Inc., submitted a request for approval of a final plat for lot 27 in Unit 2 of the subdivision, more than 10 years after receiving approval for the preliminary plat for Unit 2, and more than two years after a final plat for a neighboring lot, lot 29, received approval, according to a staff report submitted to the commission.

Dakota Jarman took his time and took a look around, then decided he wasn't going to take his golf game out of town. The Boyle County senior has decided to play golf at Centre College, saying none of the other schools he looked at felt quite as good as the one in his hometown. “I went on visits to different places, and none of them, they didn't feel right. They just didn't feel like home like Centre did,” Jarman said. “After I went on all the visits, I realized Centre was where I wanted to be.” Jarman plans to make his commitment official at a signing ceremony March 26 at Boyle.

The University of the Cumberlands was not even on Rachel Pingleton's radar. But once the Boyle County senior met the coaches and visited the school, Pingleton decided it was the right place for her to play college golf. “The coaches contacted me and became interested, and I wanted to give them a chance,”¿Pingleton said. “I actually had family members tell (coach Chris Kraftick) about me, and he contacted me and talked to me and I¿really liked talking to him and the way they set up their program.” And once she visited the Williamsburg school, she “fell in love with it.” “They've got so much to offer academically as well as golf,”¿said Pingleton, who said she is planning on major in math to either teach or become an engineer.” Pingleton chose Cumberlands over Morehead State and Campbellsville.

For the first time in school history, the West Jessamine boys' golf team is the state champion. The Colts held at even par on the second day of the tournament as other teams struggled and fell victim to the difficult Bowling Green County Club golf course Friday and Saturday. Not only did West claim the team title, but junior Fred Allen Meyer won the individual title in a playoff. “We did this as a team,” West coach Adam Young said. “A lot of golf teams thrive off one player ... but tournament in and tournament out, we have had different people lead us, and it was a team effort, and that's what I'm most proud of. “I think we play better team golf than anyone out there,” Young said.

The Centre College women's golf team finished third Monday in the 22-team Southern Shootout at Birmingham, Ala. Centre's Allison Hancock shot 72-76 - 148 at Highland Park Golf Club to tie for ninth place in the 36-hole tournament. Alyssa Brown (77-72 - 149) of Centre tied for 14th place, Whitney Miller (78-74 - 152) tied for 25th, Kathleen Kennedy (76-78 - 154) tied for 33rd and Michaela Manley (83-79 - 162) tied for 65th in the field of 124 players. The Colonels shot 603 to finish 16 strokes behind first-place Lee.

J.B. Williams of Danville tied for 15th place and Dakota Jarman of Boyle County tied for 52nd place Saturday in the boys state golf tournament at Bowling Green. Williams shot 78 in the final round to finish the 36-hole tournament at 9-over-par 153. He was 12 shots behind leaders Fred Allen Meyer of West Jessamine and Joey Mayo of St. Mary. Meyer won the individual state title, beating Mayo on the second playoff hole. West Jessamine also took home the team title. Jarman shot 85 in the final round to finish at 163. He also earned the National Guard KHSAA¿Best &¿Brightest Award.

The West Jessamine High School boys' golfers brought home the goods Saturday as the team took the state championship and junior Fred Allen Meyer won the individual title in a playoff in Bowling Green. West came back from 12 strokes down after the first day, carding an even-par 288 as a team and finishing at 17-over-par for the tournament, two strokes in front of St. Xavier and 28 strokes in front of third place St. Mary. Each of West's five golfers finished in the top 24. West had finished two years in a row as the top public school in the state but had not been able to top St. Xavier and other private schools until this year.

The Boyle County girls golf team put together a solid second day at the state golf tournament Wednesday, moving up three spots from the first round and finishing in eighth place at Bowling Green Country Club. Rachel Pingleton moved up nine places and tied for 28th after her 85-78 - 163 to lead the Rebels. Caroline McDonald shot 88-77 - 164 and tied for 34th place, Michaela Jarman finished 93-85 - 178, Alexis Draut shot 97-97 - 194 and Samantha Stewart finished 106-98 - 204. After shooting their worst round of the year in the Tuesday's first round with a 363, the Rebels shot 337 in the second round and finished with a team score of 700. Pingleton received the Kentucky National Guard Best and Brightest Award.
