Mary Janette "Jan" Vaughn and Garet Wayne Horn Jr. were married at 6:30 p.m. June 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winchester. The Rev. Norman Fischer of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Rev. Kenny Speakes of Mount Zion Christian Church officiated the service.The bride is the daughter of Mary Virginia Rupard and Kevin Vaughn, both of Clark County, and the granddaughter of Minnie Belle Adams, the late Billy Adams, Lucille Jenks and James Vaughn, and the great-granddaughter of Lola Clark, all of Clark County.

Quinnten Fowler lies under the white covers in his pale blue hospital gown in his hospital bed. His gaze never wavers from the TV where the "The Wonder Pets" are on. According to his mother, Virginia, Quinnten is a "loyal fan" of the cartoon about animals responding to calls of help from animals in trouble. Leia Lewis enters the room with a blanket covered in orange basketballs spiced with colorful outlines of sports figures. It's like a beam of sunshine in the room, bright enough to distract Quinnten from his program.

There is no doubt about it. Centre College is the higher education centerpiece of Danville. Based on its lofty national rankings as a small liberal arts college, an argument easily could be made that it is the collegiate centerpiece of the entire state and region. But there is more to Danville's post-secondary education scene than Centre. The prestigious college may cast a huge shadow over the town and state, but if you look hard enough here in Danville you can see there are other programs that are turning out students with marketable skills or with enough basic post-high school education they can move up the higher education ladder.

Olivia Allen knows how hard it can be to find just the right prom dress - especially at a reasonable price. So when it came time for her to develop a service project for the Governor's Scholars Program as well as an individual service project for the National Honor Society, a dress closet was mentioned as a possibility when she bounced around ideas with her parents. "We had heard of them in other states, and there's nothing like it around here," explains Olivia, a junior at Danville High School.

PIONEER FESTIVAL NAMES OMITTED The names of several people who are associated with the Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival were omitted from the recent Festival Guide, according to Kitty Strode, festival chairwoman. Those not mentioned were Ken Davis and members of the Winchester-Clark County Parks Department, Bobby Bailey, members of the Winchester Police Department, the Clark County Sheriff's Department, Steve Morris, Robert Leggett, Donald Lyle, Ronnie Maines, Brian McCord, members of Winchester Fire/EMS and the Clark County Fire Department.

Caroline Browning is the 2008 Elementary Miss South Carolina Clogger. She is the daughter of Jeff and Karen Browning and will be competing again this year on Nov. 7 and 8. Contestants in this competition compete in interview, evening gown and talent, which must be clogging. Caroline said that she was very excited to return to the pageant to meet new people and to represent Studio One School of Dance. Kelly Fithen and Regina Culton, owners and teachers at Studio One, are very proud of Caroline and wish her the very best with this upcoming competition.

STANFORD - Amanda Marie Elliott was crowned Miss Lincoln County Fair during a pageant Monday night. The daughter of Dave and Pattie Elliott, she also won the evening gown competition. First runner-up was Ann Elizabeth Reynolds, daughter of Jay and Alice Reynolds. She also won the interview competition. Second runner-up was Andrea Leigh Walker, daughter of Lindsay Walker and the late Steve Walker. Winner of the swimsuit competition was Lauren Ashton Gooch, daughter of Doug Gooch and Sherry Young.

LIBERTY - Lindsey Noel Morgan was named Apple Teen on Tuesday night at the annual Casey County Apple Festival pageant after 23 teens competed. Brittany Nicole Raney was first runner-up; Chelsea Killman was second runner-up; Jenna Gail Rousey was third runner-up; and Emily Brooke York was fourth runner-up. Crista Nicole Seabot won the evening gown competition; and Heather Green won the sportswear competition. Mrs. Apple Festival Angel Fulkerson was named the 2007 Mrs. Apple Festival on Tuesday out of 13 contestants.
