This coming Friday the library's Adult Summer Reading Program (ASRP) begins. Now, when most people hear the phrase “Adult Summer Reading Program,” their first thought is, “Oh, I don't have time for that. I don't have time to read a bunch of books that don't interest me.” Well, we understand that, and that's why we allow you to choose what you want to read, listen to or watch to be eligible to win prizes throughout the summer. Here's how the ASRP works: First of all, sign up to participate.

The Danville Children's Choir will present a short concert at 7 p.m. today at the Community Arts Center. The concert is free but concert-goers may purchase raffle tickets ($20) for the choir's fundraiser to offset costs for their trip to the World Choir Games in July. The Children's Choir is one of only two choirs from Kentucky that will be participating in this prestigious event ,which will showcase hundreds of choirs from around the world. At the conclusion of the concert today, there will be the official raffle drawing for the grand prize of $1,000. The choir also will travel to Kings Island later in April, where it will perform as well. The DCC formed in January 2010, has grown to nearly 50 members, and already has presented numerous concerts in Danville, including one last summer as part of the Great American Brass Band Festival.

PITTSBURGH, PA. ? With only a 41-point margin, Terry Moberly, an auto production worker from Berea (pop. 14,430), a small town in central Kentucky, claimed first place in the 2009 FLW Fantasy Fishing season and its $1 million grand prize. Moberly was awarded his $1 million grand prize on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena during the weigh-in ceremonies of the Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing. FLW Fantasy Fishing (FantasyFishing.com), an international online fantasy sports game with players in 123 countries worldwide, awarded Moberly, 46, his grand prize for accumulating 37,172 points over the course of a six-tournament season that began in February 2009.

One of the lesser-known aspects of the Ichthus Christian Music Festival held every year in Wilmore is the fact that several of the bands that play are unsigned artists still trying to make it in the music scene. Venues like the Edge stage and the Deep End provide a medium for some of those groups looking to make a name for themselves. Many of the bands that perform on the main stage on a regular basis such as Grits and Me in Motion made their debuts on some of the smaller stages at the festival, and this year's crop of alternative performers are hoping for the same fortune.

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is hosting its first-ever All Things Great and Small Maternity Fair Saturday. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is geared for women who may be pregnant or who may be planning a pregnancy in the future. The maternity fair will feature informational booths and tours of the new Women's Health Services unit in the south wing, which opened in January. There is no charge to attend, and participants do not need to pre-register. Refreshments also will be available.

Downtown Stanford was jumping Friday night with the monthly cruise in and hourly drawing for $50 gas cards. The big winner of the night was Karen Morgan of Stanford, who took home the the grand prize: a $200 Marathon Gas card.

Wedding coming up and still no clue what to wear or what to serve at the reception? Danville merchants are ready to help out. Several businesses are participating in a Bridal Hop and Trunk show Saturday featuring Alfred Angelo gowns. A goody bag at Carol's Bridal will contain a map to visit each sponsor. Each business on the map will mark passports of participants. The signed passports can be dropped into a box at Carol's and are eligible to win prizes. The grand prize is an Alfred Angelo wedding gown valued at $598.
