Harrodsburg's water plant was down around 3 p.m. Friday. Kentucky Utilities personnel told the city they think downed power lines in Salvisa are causing the problem, and they think they can restore the water supply.

Harrodsburg junior quarterback Freeman Edwards will play against Garrard County tonight. He was ejected from last week's loss to Mercer County for his alleged role in a fight during the game and that carried an automatic one-game suspension. However, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association overturned the Harrodsburg junior's suspension Thursday, according to Harrodsburg principal Wade Stanfeld. Stanfeld, who has watched the tape of fight, said the school received notice of the ruling Thursday.

HARRODSBURG - U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky., will speak at the Mercer County Chamber of Commerce luncheon at noon Thursday at Beaumont Inn. The cost is $12 for chamber members and $14 for non-members. HARRODSBURG - A former Harrodsburg police officer and Mercer County deputy sheriff has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor sex charge involving a girl under the age of 12. Mercer Circuit Judge Darren Peckler formally sentenced Ben Christopher Edwards last week for sexual misconduct after he admitted to inappropriately touching the girl in 2008. Edwards, 40, was initially charged with first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, but pleaded guilty last month to the reduced charge in a plea deal with prosecutors.  He was remanded to custody in the Boyle County Detention Center, where he will serve his 12-month sentence.

HARRODSBURG - Kim King of Harrodsburg is participating in the 2009 Kentucky Women's Roundtable in Washington, D.C., that began Saturday and runs through Wednesday. She was selected for her leadership potential within the Republican Party. She is president of the Mercer County Republican Women's Club and publicity chairwoman of the Mercer County Republican Party. The roundtable began Saturday with a pre-Derby party, along with 1,000 others hosted by the Kentucky Society of Washington.

LIBERTY - Casey County defeated Harrodsburg 25-16, 25-14 in the first round of the 12th Region Tournament Monday. Casey (20-8-2) advanced to a semifinal match Thursday against South Laurel (23-10), which upset Wayne County 25-21, 25-20 in Monday's other first-round match at Casey. Ellen Hogue had 10 kills for Casey, while Bethany Snow had seven and Jenny Patterson had three kills and McKinzee Weddle and Meredith Coffey had one each. Weddle had 11 assists, and Tiffany Spaw had seven.

HARRODSBURG ? James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital is limiting visitors during the H1N1 flu outbreak to protect the health of those in the hospital. Visits in the hospital are limited to well individuals. Haggin is asking individuals not to visit if they have a family member at home with flu-like symptoms. Children younger than 18 are prohibited to visit because of the possibility of spreading germs to patients. Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville and Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford also announced similar policies limiting visitors.

LAWRENCEBURG - A 6-year-old Harrodsburg boy is dead following a collision Saturday 3.5 miles south of here. State police say Joseph P. Shreve, 41, Lebanon, Ohio, was traveling south on U.S. 127 through a construction zone at 5:30 p.m. when his 2000 Ford truck crossed the center line and struck a 1993 Honda four-door driven by David Warner, 50, Harrodsburg. Warner and his passengers, Paula Warner, 47, and Branson Warner-Cummings, 6, were transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center by Anderson County EMS. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital by the Fayette County coroner's office.

An area high school senior will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend college as part of the 2009 Touchstone Energy ALL "A" Classic sponsored in part by Inter-County Energy. Courtney Laine Carpenter of Harrodsburg was awarded the scholarship. "Inter-County Energy is proud to support our community by helping students attend college through the ALL 'A' Classic scholarship," said Jim Jacobus, president and CEO of Inter-County Energy. The scholarship winners were chosen from among more than 300 students across Kentucky who submitted applications.
