Heather Hills is getting a makeover in every sense of the word, and the new owner says it's been a long time coming. "We're changing the population at Heather Hills," said Diego Miron, the new owner. "I don't want to promote Heather Hills, I want to promote getting the drugs out. " However, he does predict vacancies opening soon after the new policy goes into effect. Renters will now be subject to background and criminal checks. Heather Hills is under new management as well.

The walk in only a bit more than a mile, but many hope the trek will be enough to make a difference. On Oct. 5, Danville's East Main Street will be blocked off as members of the community unite to rededicate and celebrate the Heather Hills property with a prayer walk. Diego Miron of Louisville took ownership of the property this summer. With new ownership came a makeover complete with new lease guidelines and renovation of all units as an attempt to rid the area of crime and drugs.

Local police arrested two women after one allegedly hit the other in the head with a rolling pin early Friday morning. Rita A. Lewis of Heather Hills, Apt. 21, was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree wanton endangerment. Betty Johnson was charged with second-degree assault. Police said Johnson was arrested after reportedly striking Lewis in the head with a wooden rolling pin. After further investigation, police found that Lewis had apparently entered Johnson's apartment with a knife in her possession.

One man was arrested and another remains at large in connection with two strong-arm robberies that occurred at Wal-Marts in Stanford and Danville last week. State Police Det. Bill Collins arrested Curtis Hampton, 44, 108 Star Ave., Stanford and linked him to the purse snatchings, which occurred between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 13. Police are still looking for Brad Hampton, Curtis Hampton's son. Brad Hampton allegedly drove the getaway car in both robberies, police said.
