Since late 2006, a shell of a hotel has been seen from passing vehicles off U.S. 27 on the outskirts of the south side of Nicholasville. Not much has been done with it over the past six years, but that all changed last Friday. That was when Lloyd Abdoo with A&L Hospitality, LLC, signed documents that will bring an upscale hotel to Jessamine County this summer. The group is a franchisee for Marriott, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Choice Hotels and Wyndham Hotel brands. The name of the hotel, which will be located at 100 All Star Way, has not been decided upon, but Abdoo said over the next month, that should resolve itself.

Oct. 2, 1987 Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Payne, formerly of London and Lexington, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Holiday Inn, Early Drive. Hosts for the event will be their children and grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Payne were married Oct. 5, 1937, in East Benstadt. The Shearer School Parent-Teacher Association sponsored an open house Sept. 17 immediately following its first meeting of the 1987-88 school year. Vivian Perkins presided and the Pledge to the Flag was given by Tina Caudill.

Dec. 8, 1985 Mrs. Gertrude Crim was elected president of the Antioch Sunshine Circle at the Dec. 3 meeting at Holiday Inn. Elected to serve with her were Mrs. Mary Clay Ballard, vice president; Mrs. Phyllis True, secretary; and Mrs. Fern Bradley, treasurer. The annual Thanksgiving supper of the Blue Council No. 55, Daughters of America, was held recently in the community room at the Clark RECC, Iron Works Road, with Earl Smith giving the table blessing. The George Rogers Clark High School Cardinals opened their home season Friday with a 72-66 win over a gritty bunch of Wolfe County Wolves at Letcher Norton Gym. The Cardinals placed four players in double figures in fighting off the previously undefeated wolves.

Shirley J. Anderson, 70, of Hwy. 698, Stanford, died Tuesday, April 8 at her residence. A native of Danville, she was born Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1937 to the late Fred C. and Emma Lowery Routt. She had retired as an assistant manager for Holiday Inn, attended Lancaster Church of the Nazarene, and was the widow of William Edward Anderson. Survivors include her son, David (Wanda) Anderson of Lancaster; a brother, Fred C. Routt, Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Helen Clarkson of Danville; four grandchildren, David B. (Christy)
