I always try to see the best in people and think you can find good in everyone. Then, just when you think you have seen and heard it all, something comes along that makes you realize there are cruel, callous, heartless, mean and sadistic people in this world. Such is the case of the person or persons who broke into the humane society and let nine dogs out of their cages. Five of those dogs were stolen, one rescued from a dumpster and one in the ladies room at Millennium Park. Wes Enderlin, who heard the puppy crying in the dumpster by McDonald's, saved it's life by wrapping it up and calling animal control.  As stated in the Jan. 6 article in The Advocate-Messenger, this puppy is now suffering from pneumonia and is being looked after by the staff at the Town and Country Animal Clinic.

Hurte, who announced his appointment at the Central Kentucky Regional Humane Society’s grand opening and ribbon cutting Wednesday afternoon, said United Rescues of Kentucky asked if he would volunteer for the position after seeing how he and the humane society performed during the rescue of the Casey County dogs.

Our featured pets this week are Mary and Uriah. Mary is a sweet, solid white kitty with medium-length hair. She has an easy-going personality and really loves to be around people. When you meet Mary in person, the first thing you will notice are her beautiful blue eyes. Mary has been spayed and is ready to come to your home to receive the love and attention that she deserves.  Uriah is one of our Mutts With Manners dogs. He's about 1 year old and weighs 25 pounds. Uriah is cute and fluffy, his breeding is unknown but our best guess would be that he's a Corgi/beagle mix. Uriah is a playful and happy boy. While in the Mutts With Manners/Northpoint Trained Canines Program, Uriah is learning basic obedience and socialization skills and is crate-trained.
